In her first race since turning professional, Jenny Barringer ( New Balance), overtook Morgan Uceny (Reebok) and Hannah England (Nike) in the final stretch, to win in 4:08.11, a good early season time in the 1,500 meters.

Barringer, who was a top collegian, while at the University of Colorado, signed with New Balance in January 2010, and is now making the transition from collegiate athlete to professional athlete. Now coached by Julie Benson, a former U.S. Olympian ( as Julie Henner, 1996, 1,500 meters) and coach at Georgetown, now coaching at the U.S.Air Force Academy, Barringer is faced with the challenges that all collegians face when they change their training venues and coaches.

In the 2009 outdoor season, Jenny Barringer ran 3:59.90 for the 1,500 meters, 15:05.25 for 5,000 meters. Barringer’s top performance was her fifth place in the World Champs 3000m
steeplechase, where she ran 9:12.50!

Barringer is one of about a half dozen American women who can run world class from 1,500 meters to 5,000 meters. For Jenny to get the acclaim, and the satisfaction, do not be surprised to see her running from 1,500m to 5,000 meters this season, with the steeplechase being run only in a few key races.
