The first Diamond League Meet, held in Doha, Qatar on Friday night, May 14, 2010, had some tremendous performances. Asafa Powell ran 9.75 for the 100 meters, with an aiding 2.3 mps wind. He came back, in the final and won in 9.81, with Nesta Carter (9.88) and Travis Padgett in third in 9.92!

David Rudisha, following the pacemaker at 49.1, hit 1:43.00 in the 800 meters, for another world leader! Rudisha lead three more runners under 1:44!  Ezekial Kemboi ran a world leader in the steeplechase, in 8:06.25, only catching the pacemaker with 200 meters to go!

In the men’s 5,000 meters, Eliud Kipchoge ran a brilliant 12;51.25 to Vincent Kiprop Chepkok’s 12:51.45! Considering the conditions, 80 degrees Farhenheit, humid, plus strong winds, it was an amazing performance (Tariku Bekele dropped out with two laps to go).

Christian Cantwell  lead three over 21.00m in the shot put, winning with two throw at 21.82m!

On the women’s side, Kerron Stewart lead five women under 23 seconds in the 200 meters. The two top women’s events were the women’s 400 meters, where Allyson Felix ran a tactical race, running 50.15 for 400 meters to take the win. Felix ran her entire race brilliantly, coming from behind, after 300 meters to show how dominating she can be, leading five women under 51.00 seconds, including Christine Ohuruogo, in 50.88, the 07 World and 08 Olympic Gold medalist at 400 meters.

In the women’s 1,500 meters, fast, steady pace, 64.5, 2:11.15, and 3:01. at 1,100 meters (3:16.43) had Geleta Burka looking like the real thing. Burka hit the 1,200 in 3:16.43 with Nancy Langat on her shoulder. Burka and Langat duked it out until the final straightaway, where Langat used a sixty second last lap to surprise Burka, and take the win. Langat ran
4:01.63 to Burka’s 4:02.16! A tremendous race for both women!

In an epic 100 meter hurdle race, LoLo Jones took the heat and delivered a 12.62 victory over Priscilla Lopes-Schliep (12.67), Ginny Crawford (12.70) and Perdita Felician (12.73).

The 2010 Doha GP was a strong opening to the 2010 Diamond League! It is all about the competition!
