As
you all know, I am passionate about the hammer throw. Throughout high
school, I had a front row seat to the event’s growth in the pacific
northwest. For the past few years, we have been trying to take the
movement national, but have met resistance from the USATF. Harold
Connolly worked tirelessly and was ultimately unsuccessful in his
attempts to get the USATF to add the hammer throw for the youth (13-14
year old) age group despite the fact that the IAAF and IOC approve the
event at that level. The issue is up for a vote again at this year’s
USATF Annual Meeting and I am trying to rally some people in support of
the issue, which is normally one that stays under the radar.
