The 2011 Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon will feature ten men under 2:10 and 8 women with personal bests under 2:30, including the 2007 and 2008 champion. 2010 champion Bizunesh Urgesa is back to defend her title. The race is managed by Hugh Jone’s Pro Cam International group.

India has a strong running boom, with over twenty marathons and half marathons across the country. Their performances in the Asian Games give merely a hint of what kind of super sports power that India could become.

Our globe hopping photographer, Victah Sailer of PhotoRun.net, is on his way to Mumbai to shoot the race for us, so look forward to a fascinating photo gallery. We have included a few photos from the 2010 race, plus some links on this year’s event:
