Amber Campbell is the defending US champ at the 20 lb weight throw, and the US champion at the hammer throw outdoors as well. Outgoing, thoughtful, Amber is consider a local athlete here, as she grew up three hours from Albuquerque, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Campbell will also have one of the best cheering sections in the meet, with probably 100 friends and family driving in from Tucumcari to see their local hero. ” Having my friends and family at a competition gets me excited!” Last year, she set an American record, so that may have been an understatement….

The hammer and the weight throw have one of the longest traditions in our sport. Amber Campbell is an athlete who throw a 20 lb implement indoors and a 12.5 lb outdoors (the hammer). ” I spin three times indoors and spin four times outdoors, but in both, it is all about one’s speed in the ring.” noted Amber Campbell during a quick chat with RBR.

Amber Campbell is focused on 2012, she makes that quite clear. ” all of the competitions and training are about making the World Championship and Olympic teams. So, as we get closer to the event, the competitions take on a larger role.”

Amber is a modern athlete. She knows that she has to promote her sport. She trains by herself-it is her coach and her, and she likes it that way!

For Amber Campbell, like the other athletes, 2011, 2012, 2013 are important, ” It is a lot of planning now, this season builds on next season, and so the workouts, the competitions, take on more importance.”

Watch for Amber to compete on Saturday at 6.30 pm on Saturday, February
26, 2011. And remember to watch for Amber on Sunday at 4.30 PM EST on
ESPN as they cover the USA Indoors Live from Albuquerque, New Mexico!
