The Nike Pre Classic had two great days of racing, and here is how Alfons Juck saw the events on Saturday, June 4, as 12, 188 paying fans were entertained with some of the best performances in the world!

MULLINGS 9.80 AND JETER 10.70
EUGENE
(USA, Jun 4): The 37th Prefontaine Classic as fourth meet of Samsung
Diamond League was a huge results success. In Saturday program 10 world
leads and 4 meet records, when we include also the Friday than this
figures are 11 and 6 and also two world records and one European record.
Superb for Track Town and Hayward Field. After Eugene DL events two
athletes have two wins in the Diamond Race, Walter Dix at 200 m and
Vivian Cheruiyot in the 5000 m. Also 4 European leads were registered
(Ndure at 200 m, K. Borlee at 400 m, Hejnova at 400mH and Rogowska in
PV). Races of the day were both 100 m sprints with superb depth (6 men
under 10 and 4 women under 11).
Review of the events (Saturday only)
100 m: Sensational
return for Mullings from Bolt loss with world lead and meet record 9.80
(+1.3). Other five went sub 10: Rodgers 9.85 PB, Nesta Carter 9.92,
Patton 9.94, Frater 9.94 and Gatlin in sub 10 return 9.97. Non DL event.
200 m: Dix is the king, this time with 20.19 (+1.1). Second Ndure EL 20.26.
400
m: Hurdler Taylor was the best in 45.16 over Wariner 45.43 and Euro
winner Kevin Borlee who clocked EL 45.51. Pistorius tired (46.33 as
8th).
800 m: Kaki is back with 1:43.68 WL. Non DL.
Bowerman
mile: Five sub 3:50 with Keitany unexpected winner 3:49.09 WL over S.
Kiplagat 3:49.39 and oly champ Kiprop 3:49.55. Fourth Gebremehdin of
Ethiopia PB 3:49.70 and fifth Kenyan junior Ndiku 3:49.77 (the second
ever junior sub 3:50).
2 miles: Bernard Lagat clocks 8:13.62 WL to win over Kenyans. Non DL.
Steeple: Kemboi beats in 8:08.34 this year faster Kipsiele Koech 8:10.13.
110mH: Oliver
blasts to WL 12.94 (+1.8, his 5th fastest of the career) over Liu Xiang
who clocks his fastest since winning the world title in Osaka 2007
13.00, note the improvement of Ashton Eaton to 13.35.
HJ: Raul Spank as in Ostrava 232, but this time winning, Ukhov only 6th (229).
LJ:
Briton Greg Rutherford was the best with windy 832 (+2.1, legal 803)
over Khotso Mokoena (831, +2.6, but best legal of the day 819 +1.4).
Saladino 3 fouls.
SP: Hoffa
after Hengelo another top win with 21.67 and that in partly injured
situation. Armstrong close second 21.60 and Cantwell third improved his
2011 best to 21.59. Non DL.
DT: Harting ruled with 67.59 and 68.40. And is unbeaten in 2011 so far.
WOMEN
100 m:
Sensational WL and MR of Carmelita Jeter 10.70 in ideal +2.0 wind.
Comes the time to attack Flo-Jo? Baring in mind VCB and Carmelita.
Second Myers PB 10.86, third Stewart 10.87 SB and fourth oly winner
Fraser-Pryce 10.95.
400 m: African
champ Montsho was the sensation winner of the day in 50.59 as Felix was
third (51.41) and Sanya fourth (51.78). Non DL.
800 m:
Jamaican record holder Sinclair has top shape and won in WL 1:58.29,
Semenya fast 1:58.88 second, Jepkosgei third 1:59.15 but Jelimo last
2:09.12.
1500 m: Burka
beats world leader Jamal this time 4:04.63 over 4:05.44. Third Uceny
beats Euro winner Fernandez 4:06.32 and 4:06.66. Non DL.
400mH: Fastest
race of the year as Lashinda Demus clocks WL 53.31 over Jamaicans
Spencer 53.45 and world champ Walker 53.56. Fourth Czech Hejnova gets EL
54.26.
PV: World
champ Rogowska clears 468 in second (EL) in her season debut and wins.
Feofanova 458 in season opener and Murer coming from South American
Champs gold only third 448.
TJ: European champ Saladuha has the shape: in third attempt 14.98 (+0.6) WL, MR and PB.

Another European winner Ostapchuk opened the season in perfect style.
20.59 is WL and MR. Second US indoor record holder Jill
Camarena-Williams improved her outdoor best to 19.76.
JT: This time for Obergfoll with 65.48 (her best of 2011) over Abakumova 65.30 and Spotakova 64.87 (also seasons best).
CLAREMONT
(USA, Jun 4): US record holder Tyson Gay is not competing on the
circuit but at a local meet in Florida clocked superb world leading 9.79
(+1.1). It was National Track Center Last Chance meet. In a fast race
second Jamaican talent Nickel Ashmeade improved to 9.96 ahead of Keston
Bledman of Trinidad another PB 9.99. Fourth Travis Padgett posted 10.00.
Gay is scheduled to run his first big track meeting of the year on June
11 in New York at the adidas Grand Prix, part of Samsung Diamond

MENKOV EL 828 IN LONG JUMP
KALAMATA
(GRE, Jun 4): Papaflessia meet (EA Classic) in Kalamata was highlighted
by top long jumping in hot weather and good wind. Russian Aleksandr
Menkov improved to European leading 828 (+1.9) and beat home record
holder Luis Tsatoumas who started the season on a high note with 819
(-0.8). Very good javelin marks by Greek athletes, Yervasios Filippidis
82.38 and Spiridon Lebesis 81.12. Ukrainian Vladyslav Revenko cleared
555 in pole vault, Artur Ostrowski of Poland won the 800 m (1:47.90) and
Michael Mathieu of Bahamas clocked 45.61 at 400 m. In the 110 m hurdles
close battle for home Kostadinos Douvalidis (13.76, -0.1) over Briton
Gianni Frankis 13.77. In women events Bulgarian Venelina Veneva cleared
195 cm in high jump as top result. Nina Kolaric won close long jump for
Slovenia (651, -0.1). Greek wins for Yeoriya Kokloni at 100 m (11.48,
+0.5), Eleni Filandra (800 m, 2:03.30) and Agni Derveni (400 m, 53.03).
Here at the flat distance 2004 hurdles olympic winner Fani Halkia made a
poor comeback with 57.66.
GOLD MEDALS FOR PORTUGAL
OSLO
(NOR, Jun 4): Men of Spain and women of Italy won the European Cup 10
000 m in teams rankings. Portugal´s Sara Moreira was the best woman in
31:39.11 ahead of French marathon record holder Christelle Daunay
(31:44.84) and German Sabrina Mockenhaupt 31:57.23. British European
indoor champion at 3000 m Helen Clitheroe debuted at the distance on the
track as fourth with 32:11.29. Also in men´s individual race gold for
Portugal as Yousef El Kalai got 28:20.03. Spanish Chema Martinez was
second 28:24.16 and distant third German Andre Pollmacher 28:39.57.
PERKOVIC IMPRESSIVE DISCUS NR AND WL 69.99
VARAZDIN
(CRO, Jun 4): European discus champion Sandra Perkovic has incredible
shape. At National Cup meet she improved her own world lead and national
record to superb 69.99 m. It happened in sixth round. It is the best
women discus mark since June 13, 1999 when Natalya Sadova got 70.02 in
Thessaloniki, Greece. That means 12 years. She remains unbeaten in 2011.
CHAMBERS AND BORZAKOVSKIY COMPETING

(BEL, Jun 4): Briton Dwain Chambers posted 10.27 against -2.3 win at
the International Flanders Athletics Meeting in Belgium after returning
from Brazilian Tour. Another top entry was 2004 Olympic winner at 800 m
Yuriy Borzakovskiy who won in 1:46.57. Benjamin Kiplagat clocked 3:39.04
in the 1500 m and Fred Townsend of USA 13.54 (+1.1) at 110 m hurdles.
In women steeple Kenyan Lydia Chepkurui achieved 9:43.07 and Dutch
junior Jamile Samuel 23.44 (-0.9) in the 200 m.
ZAGORNIY 81.73 WL
YERINO
(RUS, Jun 4): During first day of Russian Cup meet Ostrava winner
Aleksey Zagorniy improved his own hammer world lead to 81.73. Top shape
also by old-timer in javelin Sergey Makarov 85.19. Sprints were marred
by strong wind. Konstantin Petryashov clocked 10.19 (+4.3) at 100 m and
Sergey Shubenkov 13.52 (+3.0) at 110 m hurdles. In women 100 m lucky
+0.9 for Aleksandra Fedoriva and fast 11.09 over Yelizaveta Savlinis
11.17. In the 400 m races wins for Maksim Dyldin 46.32 and Anastasiya
Kapachinskaya 51.93. In triple jump windy 14.47 (+6.5) for Natalya
Kutyakova and 14.43 (+4.8) for Yekaterina Koneva.

Jun 4): Sparkassen meet registered European leading 4×100 m by German
men 38.66. In the women race Germany clocked 43.39 anchored by 100 m
European Champion Verena Sailer. She was only third in the individual
100 m in 11.63, won by Briton Jeanette Kwakye 11.48 (-1.5). Abi Oyepitan
won for UK also the 200 m in 23.44 (-1.8). Janin Lindenberg improved to
51.97 in the 400 m. But another British win for Kate Dennison in pole
vault (450) over Kristina Gadschiew (445). German Michelle Weitzel won

7:57.50 in the 3000 m. Georg Fleischhauer clocked 49.91 in the 400 m

Jun 4): During first day of Coppa Italia meet Marco Vistalli achieved
46.01 at 400 m, Giuseppe Gibilisco cleared 555 in pole vault. In triple
jump Fabrizio Schembri with 16.92 (+0.7) beat young Daniele Greco
(16.89) and favorite Fabrizio Donato (16.85). Aeronautica Milano
achieved 39.37 in the 4×100 m and Giorgio Rubino 39:43.20 in the 10 000 m
walk. Best women results, the 193 by Raffaella Lamera in high jump.
Also to note 14.25 of Simona La Mantia in triple jump and 18.59 of
Chiara Rosa in shot put. Silvia Salis got 70.98 in hammer and Beijing
bronze medalist Elisa Rigaudo 21:12.73 in 5000 m walk.

Jun 4): Anastasiya Mironchyk-Ivanova won also the triple jump during
second day of Olympic Champions meet with 14.29. Svetlana Usovich posted
fast 51.20 in the 400 m. Pavel Krivitskiy was good with hammer 79.23
and Yanina Provalinskaya-Karolchik 18.07 in shot put. Hammew women was
Elena Matoshko winning with 70.24 and olympic winner Oksana Menkova only
third (67.78). Another olympic gold medalist Yulia Nesterenko was
second in the 100 m (11.63, beaten by Yulia Balykina 11.59).

Jun 4): European indoor medalist Ezinne Okparaebo at Friidrettsfestival
International meet here missed her own national record only by 0.01 with
fast 11.24 (+2.0). Russian Irina Maracheva clocked world leading
2:36.31 at 1000 m ahead of Belarus Marina Arzamasava 2:37.93. Aleksandr
Khutte of Russia won the 100 m in 10.32 (+1.8) and was second at the 200
m (20.67, +2.5) behind Sweden´s Johan Wissman (20.66).

Jun 4): Fast men 200 m at Swiss Club Championships. Reto Amaru Schenkel
clocked Daegu standard and life time best 20.53 (+0.3) ahead of Alex
Wilson 20.56.
MARSEILLE
(FRA, Jun 4): US sprinter Willie Perry dominated with two wins 10.27
(+1.1) and 20.64 (+0.9) at international meet here. Senegal´s Fatou

ALBANY
(USA, Jun 4): A record 4816 women jammed the streets of downtown
Albany, NY this morning for the 33rd running of the Freihofer’s Run for
Women 5K, and it was Mamitu Daska, 27, from Ethiopia who proved swiftest
of them all, dominating the race from the outset and crossing the
finish line comfortably ahead to claim a first place prize of $10,000.
She clocked 15:19 over another Ethiopian Aheza Kiros 15:23 and former
World CC Champion Emily Chebet 15:29.
BORSKY MIKULAS (SVK, Jun 4): World Cup winner Matej Toth won for 6th time Slovak 20 km walk title here in 1:22:47.
