Usain Bolt, he who false started in the 100 meters and then flew over 200 meters in 19.40 in Daegu, and then joined his team mates and shattered the 4 x 100m WR with a 37.04, ran 9.85 in Zagreb on Monday, September 12. Now, while EME points out that he is undefeated over 100 meters, I beg to differ.
In my mind, the point of racing is to run, without false starting, to the finish. As Usain Bolt was unable to do that in Daegu, his FS, is a loss, in my book. Not sure how he feels about that, but not trying to disparage the fine athlete, but stuff happens. False starts are part of the sport, and when they happen, they sour an event. Bolt should be congratulated for “Manning up” over the false start. Enough said.

holder Usain Bolt remains undefeated with a solid win at the IAAF world
challenge meeting in Zagreb, the 61st edition of Hanzekovic Memorial. Bolt
clocked 9.85 (+0.1) to beat World bronze medalist Kim Collins (10.01) and
Richard Thompson (10.03). Packed stadium witnessed in total 5 meet records Dayron Robles once again proved his position
among the top hurdles with another win in the 110H with 13.00 (-0.2). Jason
Richardson keeps improving with 13.04 over David Oliver (13.20). Strong
performances in the 1500m race as well with Kenyan Nixon Chepseba clocking
3:30.94 over Turkish Iham Ozbilen (3:31.37, national record). Artur Ostrowski
clocked new Polish record as 6th 3:34.45. LaShawn Merritt (45.22) took an easy
victory over compatriot Greg Nixon (45.73) in the 400m. American shot putters
were back on top with Reese Hoffa taking the win with a heave of 21.73.
Christian Cantwell (21.55) and Dylan Armstrong (21.40) came in second and
third. Russian youngster Alexander Menkov (818) took victory in the long jump.
Carmelita Jeter lit up the women’s sprints with a 11.00 win in the 100m (-0.5)
ahead of Schillonie Calvert (11.13). She then won the 200 m in personal best
22.55 (-0.2). Novlene Williams-Mills (50.31) held off Russia’s Anastasiya
Kapachinskaya (50.40) and Shericka Willimas (50.45). Christine Ohuruogu
finished in fourth (50.85). Sally Pearson remains unbeaten this season with a
12.68 (-0.4) victory over Dawn Harper (12.81). Anna Chicherova stays on top
with a win over Blanka Vlasic, both with a jump over 200. Four Kenyans clocked
sub 8:20, winner Hillary Yego 8:12.81. World leader Zoltan Kovago was the best
in discus with 64.91. In excellent hammer competition Krisztian Pars was beaten
by two throwers (79.86). Dilshod Nazarov 80.30
and Primoz Kozmus 80.28 achieved season bests. World finalist Meggie
Vassey clocked impressive 1:58.64 in the women 800 m ahead of Cuban Yuneisy
Santiusti who lives in Italy (1:58.70 PB). Olga Zaytseva leaped top 673 win in

CHISINAU (MDA): During the ХV
International Scientific Congress “Olympic sport and sport for all” which is
underway in Chisinau (Moldova), the President of the National Olympic Committee
of Ukraine Sergey Bubka was conferred the Doctor of Honors from the State
University of Physical Education and Sports of Moldova, for his significant
contribution to the development of sports and Olympism on the worldwide scale.
Earlier, Sergey Bubka was awarded the same honorary degree by the National
Sports Academy of Bulgaria, Lviv State University of Physical Culture, Donetsk
National University and National University of Physical Education and Sports of
Ukraine.

DE JANEIRO(BRA) : Ernst & Young have signed up to become the first
Tier Two sponsors of the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro as the
official provider of consulting services to the Games reports Insidethegames.
Ernst & Young had also been involved in the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio,
an event that laid the foundations for the city’s successful bid for the
Olympics and Paralympics.
LAUSANNE (SUI): The Court of
Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed the 2 year doping ban of Dutch
steeple chaser Simon Vroemen. Vroemen tested positive in 2008 but stated that
the test was due to medication against asthma. The CAS now judged the 2 year
ban to be correct and ruled that Vroemen will have to carry the costs of the
procedure as well as pay a CHF 10.000 fee to local anti-doping authorities.
UTRECHT (NED): Dutch top athletes
Khalid Choukoud and Jesper van der Wielen have confirmed their participation at
the Utrecht Singelloop on September 25th. Van der Wielen, the European U23
5000m bronze medalist, will take on the European U23 5000m champion Sindre
Buraas as well as favourite Philip Langat from Kenya. In the women’s race, last
year’s winner Rkia El Moukim remains the favourite for victory.
NEW YORK (USA): Martin Lel,
Emmanuel Mutai and Jo Pavey are the latest names that join the top field for
the ING New York City Marathon on November 6. Lel, the two-time New York city
marathon winner will face Mutai, who won the Virgin London Marathon earlier
this year. Mary Wittenberg confirmed the men’s field for the 2011 ING New York
city marathon will be a blockbuster field. British Jo Pavey will compete in her
2nd marathon ever, after making her debut earlier this year in the Virgin
London Marathon.
OTTAWA (CAN): Athletics Canada
announced today a team of 17 athletes who will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico
for the staging of the 2011 Pan American Games.
Headlining Canada’s athletics entry is defending Pan American Games
champion Dylan Armstrong in the shot put.
INDIANAPOLIS (USA): Carmelita Jeter
and Trey Hardee were selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee as Athlete’s of the
Month for the month of August. Jeter and Hardee were instrumental in a fast
start for Team USA as Jeter won a trio of medals at the World Championships,
while Hardee took the win in the decathlon.
LONDON (GBR): Relations between Britain and Russia could be
greatly improved thanks to the two countries cooperation on the London 2012 and
Sochi 2014 Olympics and Paralympics, Prime Minister David Cameron claimed
during a visit to Moscow today when his delegation included Sebastian Coe. Cameron was making the first visit by a
British leader to Moscow for six years with relations between Britain and
Russia at their worst since the end of the Cold War.
