Jimmy Vicaut ran 6.53 for the 60 meters at PSD Bank Meeting, held in Dusseldorf last night. Yes, the French have sprinters and Jimmy is faster than Lemaitre now over 60. Remember when the French 4 x 100m team had the WR? At that time, they had four guys who trained together since they were 15-16 and ran 10.10 or so for 100 meters. Watch Monsieur Vicaut. He is much more of a 100 meter runner than Lemaitre. But, a fascinating duo there!

New star: Jimmy Vicaut, 4 world leads
DUSSELDORF (GER, Feb 10): 7th edition of the PSD Bank Meeting in
Dusseldorf (EA Indoor Permit) registered four world leading marks (and
four European leads), two new meeting records before full house of 2000
spectators. Sensation of the evening was last year European junior
champion French Jimmy Vicaut who improved from 6.66 last year first to
6.63 in heats and then to impressive world leading 6.53 in the finals.
He has now better PB as European champion Christophe Lemaitre (6.55).
Another sensation happened in 60 m hurdles final when US Kevin Craddock
achieved life-time best 7.53 and beat World record holder Dayron Robles
7.55 (third Jeff Porter 7.62, but 7.60 in heats). Other three world
leads in distances. Poland´s European Indoor Champion Adam Kszczot
dominated the 800 m in front running (51.82 at 400 m, 1:18.76 at 600 m)
and clocked indoor PB 1:45.44 (second Kenyan Boaz Lalang way back in
1:47.06). Nixon Chepseba got another WL when winning the 1500 m in
3:35.53 beating Bethwel Birgen 3:35.93, Turkish Kenyan Ilham Tanui
3:36.31 (national record and EL) and young Qatari Mohamed Al Garni
3:36.88 (also national record). The tradition of fast 5000 m races
continued when Thomas Longosiwa of Kenya beat country-mates and
favorites with strong last rounds and clocked as 6th in the history sub
13 minutes (12:58.67). Second world junior record holder Isaiah Koech
13:02.36 and third steeple specialist Paul Kipsiele Koech improved his
best to 13:02.69. Fourth Ethiopian Yitayu Atnafu with 13.04.18 is second
best junior ever and 7th Polat Kemboi clocked new Turkish record
13:12.55 (fourth best European all-time and EL). Women´s 1500 m
initially also ended with a world lead by Genzebe Dibaba (4:01.96) and
great indoor and 1500 m debut for Pamela Jelimo (4:07.11) but later both
with another Kenyan Helen Obiri were disqualified for running too early
into inside of the track. Ukrainian Anzhelina Shevchenko was a lucky
winner with European leading 4:07.55 afterwards. European indoor
champion Olesya Povkh won the 60 m in European lead 7.13 ahead of
Jamaican Aileen Bailey 7.27 and Dutch talent Dafne Schippers 7.28 (in
heats 7.26). Lolo Jones despite slight injury was the 60 m hurdles
winner in 7.94 ahead of improved Danielle Carruthers 7.95 and Yvette
Lewis 8.03 (but 8.01 in heats). Best European with Istanbul standard
Czech Lucie Skrobakova fourth 8.05. Russian European indoor champion
2009 Antonina Krivoshapka was clear 400 m winner (52.21). In three
technical events close battles. US Christian Cantwell won the shot put
with 21.31 meet record over Olympic winner Tomasz Majewski 21.19 and
home star David Storl 20.67. Dramatic last jump of 798 by Ignisious
Gaisah of Ghana was worth a win over Khotso Mokoena (also 798, but 2nd
best 782 to Gaisah´s 796). Cuban Yargelis Savigne with 14.22 beat world
champion Olha Saladukha (14.17) in the triple jump.
