(GER, Feb 12): Four world leads and three meet records highlighted the IHM
Indoor Meet in Karlsruhe (IAAF Indoor Permit). The capacity crowd of
Europahalle saw top results in the distances. Younger sister Genzebe Dibaba
paid enough attention to the first lap and this time made no mistake and won in
world lead, meet record and fifth fastest performer ever 4:00.13 in the 1500 m.
Second Kenyan Helen Obiri 4:06.25 and third Poland´s Angelika Cichocka improved
to 4:07.83. In the men´s 3000 m close battle until last meters won by Augustin
Choge 7:29.94 ahead of Edwin Soi, also 7:29.94. They are 6th and 7th sub 7:30
performers ever. Also both world leaders. Third Yenew Alamirew 7:31.23 ahead of
Eliud Kipchoge 7:32.03, European leader of the season Arne Gabius 7:38.13 and
junior Yitayal Atnafu of Ethiopia 7:39.78. Fourth global mark 2011 for Kenyan
Bethwel Birgen at 1500 m in 3:34.65 ahead of Turkish Ilham Tanui 3:34.76
European lead and national record. Second meet record in women 3000 m where
Meryem Selsouli of Morocco in 8:36.87 clearly beat Sylvia Kibet of Kenya
8:43.54 and pre-race favorite Meselech Melkamu 8:43.93. Czech sensation Pavel
Maslak improved to 46.29 winning his 400 m race, later on the track Nery Brenes
of Costarica was faster in his race 45.90 (would be meet record) but was later
disqualified for lane violation. On the straight fast women 60 m by Ivet Lalova
of Bulgaria 7.16 ahead of Aleen Bailey of Jamaica 7.18 and Tameka Williams of
St. Kitts 7.24 (PB´s for all three). US Jeff Porter was in shape of his life,
clocking two 7.54 PB´s in heats and the second in finals was enough for a win.
Russian Konstantin Shabanov who improved to European lead 7.52 in the heat was
second in 7.56. US Yvette Lewis won the women hurdles in 7.98 as fastest in heats
German European indoor champion Carolin Nytra (7.97 as great season opener)
false started and Lolo Jones pulled out before the heats after warm-up due to
illness. In three technical events Tomasz Majewski won the shot put with
European lead and meet record 21.27 ahead of David Storl 21.03, Christian
Cantwell 20.68 and Dutch Rutger Smith who opened the season with 20.45. Irina
Gordeyeva cleared as only one 193 in the high jump and home star Ariane
Friedrich was second with first 190 clearance in post surgery time. National
record holder Silke Spiegelburg cleared 468 to win the pole vault (and missed
478 this time).

BLEASDALE
470, CHAMBERS 6.58

SHEFFIELD
(GBR, Feb 12): Holly Bleasdale during second day of the UK Indoor Championships
showed to a close-to-capacity crowd 470 clearance. She then went to 489
and did not come close. Bleasdale’s training partner Katie Byres also delivered
a notable performance as she improved her UK indoor junior record to 437.
The reigning world indoor pentathlon champion Jessica Ennis clocked PB of 7.95
in the heats of 60 m hurdles and got the same time also in the finals. Dwain
Chambers is approaching his 35th birthday but the Belgrave Harrier’s speed
hasn’t been blunted as he rolled back the years to win his fifth UK indoor title.
His winning 6.58 confirms he will defend his title from Doha 2010 also in
Istanbul 2012. Second European under-23 100m bronze medallist Andrew Robertson
set a PB of 6.64 in the semi-final before improving to 6.61 in the final.
Harry Aikines-Aryeetey comprised the podium with a season’s best of 6.65.
In the women’s 60m, Jeanette Kwakye won her first UK indoor title with a stadium
record of 7.20 for her fastest time since 2008. Laura Turner took the runner-up
spot in 7.29 ahead of last year’s champion Jodie Williams in 7.31. Lawrence
Clarke also succumbed to a false-start in the men’s 60m hurdles final
which left training partner Andrew Pozzi in the clear to win his first UK
senior title in fast 7.62. Nigel Levine won the 400 m in European leading 46.28.
Commonwealth finalist Joe Thomas delivered another convincing performance en
route to the 800m title. Despite suffering from a cold this week, the
Welshman was rewarded with a front-running PB and stadium record of
1:47.26 to regain his title. Marilyn Okoro won her third UK indoor 800m title
in 2:04.01. Shana Cox moved into the UK indoor all-time 400m top-ten with a 52.38
victory. World 1500m silver medallist Hannah England stepped up to the 3000m
where she outsprinted Katrina Wootton, 9:06.04 to 9:06.99. Shara Proctor won
her first UK indoor title with stadium long jump record 668 cm. In the men long
jump J.J. Jegede set a stadium record of 796. The men’s high jump saw
Samson Oni winning with 226 over Robbie Grabarz 223. From Athletics Weekly.

SEBRLE
6105 AND HOPES FOR 8TH WORLD INDOORS

PRAHA
(CZE, Feb 12): World record holder Roman Sebrle succesfully ended his jubilee
30th indoor heptathlon with a top score of 6105 at age of 37. During
Sunday at Czech Combined Events Championships Sebrle started with 8.22 at 60 m
hurdles, continued with 480 in the pole vault and ended with 2:46.82 at 1000 m.
He is currently third in the world list 2012 and so on the qualifiying position
for Istanbul. It was 22nd 6000+ for Sebrle. „I was hoping for 6000 so it is
actually even better. First day was great, I need to improve on the
second. I hope I will be part of my 8th World Indoor Championships in
a row,” said Sebrle who won his 4th indoor national title. Second Adam
Sebastian Helcelet 5951 points (PB) and third Brazilian guest Renato Atila da
Camara scored new national record 5753 points.

(GBR, Feb 12): During second day of Irish Championships Derval O´Rourke clocked
8.21 at 60 m hurdles. Laura Reynolds won the 3000 m walk in 12:46.23 ahead of
Kate Veale 12:52.79.

POMBAL
(POR, Feb 12): Solid 3000 m races during second day of Portugal Club
Championships. Rui Silva got 7:58.03 and Carla Rocha 9:12.73.

VOLGOGRAD
(RUS, Feb 11-12): Russian European junior champion Sergey Morgunov scored a solid
double at Russian Junior Championships. He won his specialty the long jump 794
and was also the fastest in the 60 m (6.81). High jump winners Mariya Kuchina
186 and Ilya Ivanyuk 222.

KAUNAS
(LTU, Feb 12): At Lithuanian Students Championships good high jumps by Airine
Palsyte 190 and Raivydas Stanys 225.

(GER, Feb 12): Good long jumping here by Nadja Kather 666 and Alyn Camara 789

SCHOORL
(NED, Feb 12): Dutch running star Lornah Kiplagat won the 10 km road race Groet
Uit Schoorl Run in 32:27. Abdi Nageeye was the best male runner in 28:55 ahead
of Briton Scott Overall 28:57 and Norway´s European U23 Champion Sindre Buraas
29:00. Close fourth another home runner Khalid Choukoud 29:00. Former world
champion Catherine Ndereba of Kenya won the 21 km in 1:17:59. In snow around
8500 participants in all races.

DIEKIRCH
(LUX, Feb 12): Kenyan Japheth Korir won the Eurocross CC race (IAAF Permit)
clocking 30:34 at 10.2 km. Second Kenyan junior Albert Rop 30:35 ahead of
Ethiopian Tasama Dame 30:59. Canadian Reid Coolsaet was fourth 31:17. Best
European French Driss El Himer as 8th (31:42). In Belgium living Ethiopian
Almensch Belete was the best in women 5.35 km (18:25). Second Etenesh Diro of
Ethiopia 18:28 and third Moroccan Fatiha Benchatki 18:29. German Susanne Hahn
was fifth 18:43 ahead of Slovenian Sonja Roman 18:46.

CACERES
(ESP, Feb 12): Eritreans dominated the Caceres CC race in Spain. Kidane Tadese
won the men´s 11.1 km in 31:22 ahead of Spanish Carles Castillejo 31.41 and
young Merhawi Tadese 31.47. Fourth Jesus Espana 32:12. In the women 7.1 km
Nazareth Weldu won in 23:02 ahead of Spanish star Marta Dominguez 23:04, Diana
Martin 23:05 and European CC Champion Fionualla Britton of Ireland 23:07.

HULSHOUT
(BEL, Feb 12): 6th leg of Belgian CC series Lotto CrossCup saw British
domination in women 6.4 km. Hatti Dean achieved 21:06 ahead of Hannah Doran
21:19 and home veteran Veerle Dejaeghere 21:25. Stijn Garain won men´s 9.55 km
in 28:29 ahead of Koen Naert 28:31 and British Jonathan Taylor 28:34.

JINJA
(UGA, Feb 11): IAAF reports that World Cross Country silver medallist Thomas
Ayeko and Annet Negesa are the new Ugandan Cross Country champions after
convincingly out witting their opponents in the Eastern Ugandan town of Jinja.
Ayeko clocked 33:55 at 12 km ahead of Abraham Kiplimo 34:21 and Tim Toroitich
34:22. Negesa achieved 26:22 at 8 km beating Viola Chemos 26:28.
