Dr. Norb Sander called Elliott Denman, ” an icon”. I am fortunate to have Elliott writing for our publications, American Track & Field, and Athletes Only. Over the past few years, he has also written for Running Network and Runblogrun.

What makes Elliott Denman such a superb writer? Elliott Denman is a life long journalist with the observation skills of a fifteen year old. He misses nothing. A good quote, an approach that one may not have considered. Some of his best pieces, I believe, have been the series he did for RBR and RN on US Open, NB Indoor , Millrose and US Indoor.

Congrats to a journalist who has done much for our sport and does not seem to slow down!

Sportswriter Elliott Denman To Receive Armory’s Saplin Award

New York, N.Y., February 28, 2012
– Elliott Denman, a four-time
New Jersey Sportswriter of the Year, will receive the Stan Saplin
Sports Media Award tonight at 7 during the Eastern States Championships
at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center.

The
award is annually presented by the Armory Foundation to a journalist,
public relations professional, executive, filmmaker or broadcaster who
has made a significant contribution to the promotion of track &
field.

“Elliott
Denman is one of the icons of those who have covered our sport over
many, many years,” said Dr. Norbert Sander, president of the Armory
Foundation and the Millrose Games. “Even better he remains one of the
best active reporters who we can count on to be at every major track
& field event worldwide.”

Denman is a native of the Bronx and qualified for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, placing 11th overall and the second American
finisher in the 50k walk.

Past
winners of the Saplin award include Frank Litsky and Bill Miller of the
New York Times, photographer Bill Moore of the New York Amsterdam
News, Ed Gant, a New Jersey Jtrack editor and Walt Murphy, founder of
Eastern Track.
