Thought that our readers might enjoy a few words on our dinner at a Turkish fish house last night, called RED FISH. It is down by the marina and was, well fantastic!

On Thursday night, Gary Morgan, the 1988 Olympic Racewalker who writes for Michigan Runner under the title, Mr. Ubiquitous, joined me for dinner. We took a rainy walk from my hotel at the Marina, to a little place, that looked to be deserted. Apparently, people like to eat later in Istanbul as well. We showed up about 7.30 and by 8.30, the place was rocking.

I wanted to have something very local. So, we found REDFISH, a Turkish fish house. The service was great, the Beer, (see below) was a nice pilsner and the mese, local goat cheese, hot, spicy shrimp, a bowl of olives, a taziki type youghurt dish were all great. The salad, a nice bowl of greens with great tomatoes, onions and oil and vinegar was perfect. Nice to have fresh, fragrant tomatoes!
The restaurant filled up with families and couples. There were kids coloring their coloring books and laughing with the staff, a very family place. The main course was baby bluefish, served with boiled potato, onions and some pepper. The fish was fresh (we were literally over the water), and grilled to perfection. Sometimes, the simplest dish is the best.
We finished with a plate of goat cheese, tomatoes and sliced cucumbers. Again, fresh, and perfect finish (with a couple of beers) to a great dinner.
REDFISH had fresh snapper, and sea bass that night. I do not think one could go wrong here and would highly recommend it. Dinner for two, was about $60 (beer not included).
