Urech not ready yet
ZURICH (SUI): Swiss hurdler record holder Lisa Urech has worries. Her
preparation after hip surgery half a year ago is not going according to
the plans. Her trainingwas going well, before she started to feel pain
in her left hip. She still hopes to make it to London Games in full
health and top condition. All was well until middle of April when the
pain started during training camp in Mallorca. Her season begin is not
clear yet.
Carter has the chance on Saturday
KINGSTON (JAM): In an interview with the Jamaican Gleaner sprinter Nesta
Carter speaks about being overshadowed by his compatriots even though
he has a personal best time of 9.78. Carter, who earlier this year won
his first individual international sprint medal at the IAAF World indoor
championships, added that he continues to work hard and is confident he
can improve on his best time of 9.78. He can prove his abilities this
Saturday at Jamaica Invitational in Kingston (IAAF World Challenge)
beeing in the field with world record holder Usain Bolt, team-mate
Michael Frater, Richard Thompson of Trinidad and US sprinter Darvis
Patton.
VCB to open in Doha
DOHA (QAT): World and olympic winner Veronica Campbell-Brown postoponed
her season debut for the Samsung Diamond League opener in Doha on May 11
with a 100 m race. “I am yet to compete outdoors, not by choice as I
had a 200m scheduled mid-April, however, weather and a changing schedule
scrapped that idea. I will now open my 2012 outdoor season in Doha,
Qatar,” she said for IAAF. Her next races afterwards will be two 200 m
sprints, in Shanghai and Ostrava.

BRUSSELS (BEL): Belgian 400m hurdler Elodie Ouedraogo told Belgian media
this could be her last year as a competitive athlete, although she
added she is still improving in the 400m hurdles. Ouedraogo narrowly
missed out on a spot in the final at last year’s IAAF World
Championships and is hoping to at least repeat that feat in London this
year.
WILLEMSTAD (CUR): The athletics federation from Curaçao has selected its
first athlete for the London Olympic Games. The federation confirmed
that 400m runner Lie-Marvin Bonevasia ran 45.77 in Columbia at Restrepo
meet on Saturday and has achieved the B-standard. As an athlete from the
former Netherlands Antilles Bonevasia can compete in London under the
Olympic flag reports Wereldomroep.
FRANKFURT (GER): Leichtathletik.de reports that high jumper Ariane
Friedrich has been seriously hampered in her Olympic training by media
attention following a case in which she was sexually offended. Friedrich
continuously changes her training location within the Frankfurt area in
order to be able to train. She has also logged off from Facebook.
LAUSANNE (SUI): Multiple European, world and Olympic medallist Fiona May
will share her expertise in horizontal jumps at a coaching clinic in
Helsinki on 26 June, a day ahead of the start of the 2012 European
Athletics Championships in the Finnish capital reports European
Athletics . The clinic, organised by the Local Organising Committee of
Hesinki 2012, is aimed at developing women’s long and triple jump
skills, which will help budding athletes from Finland to grow.
EUGENE (USA): American long distance athlete Jordan Hasay is rethinking
her Olympic goals for London. The 20-year old athlete, who managed a
semi-final place in the 2008 Olympic trials at the age of 16,
disappointed last weekend at the Payton Jordan Invitational and is far
off from reaching the Olympic A-standard. She told ksby.com she might
not be able to do well enough this year and will have to postpone her
Olympic dream.
EUGENE (USA): Five time NCAA pole vault champion Tommy Skipper (28) is
set for a comeback after he stopped training in 2009. Skipper, who is
currently without contract and financial help, is dreaming of qualifying
for the London Olympic Games. To The Register Guard he added that
visiting fellow pole vaulter Brad Walker has ignited in him the fire to
jump again. His best is 580 from 2007.
LONDON (GBR): The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) ruling against
the British Olympic Association’s (BOA) policy of lifetime bans for
serious doping offenders has polarised opinion within British
sporting circles. The BBC pundit and former world 110 metres hurdles champion Colin
Jackson says he has “no doubt” that Dwain Chambers, who served a two-year doping ban, will now be part of the
British Olympic team in London. European and Commonwealth 110m hurdles champion Andy Turner
tweeted: “Either make lifetime ban for drug cheats worldwide or
scrap it completely.” Fellow British sprinter Tyrone Edgar has welcomed the possibility of
Chambers running at this year’s Olympics. Daniel Caines, the former world indoor 400m champion and past
Olympian, also tweeted in favour of Chambers and others affected by
the latest ruling. Kriss Akabusi, the former European 400m hurdles champion, writing on
www.akabusi.com, said he was not in favour of the BOA life ban. Akabusi’s old training partner Roger Black, twice European 400m
champion and Atlanta 1996 Olympic silver medallist, disagrees, and
his views have been backed by numerous competitors within British

SAO PAULO (BRA): Brazil confirmed olympic selection for its marathon
runners. Three men will be former NYC Marathon winner Marilson Gomes
dos Santos (2:08:33) with Paulo Roberto Paula (2:10:23) and Franck
Caldeira (2:12:03). The only woman will be Adriana Aparecida da
Silva (2:29:17).
MONACO (MON): IAAF confirmed latest changes of nationalities. Olympic
triple jump winner Francois Mbango is eligible to compete for France
since April 16, 2012. The Cameroon athlete had the new citizenship since
September 16, 2010. Romanian distance runner Nuta Olaru is able to
represent USA from November 21, 2012.
OTTAWA (CAN): Athletics Canada is pleased to announce the five
athletes, coach, builder and three in memoriam inductees who will be
enriched as part of the class of 2012. Charmaine Crooks, Milton Ottey, Guillaume
Leblanc, Dave Steen and
Bruny Surin will be inducted in the athlete
category.
BUDAPEST (HUN): “Celebrate with the winners” is the motto for the second
Istvan Gyulai Memorial planned for August 20, just some days after the
Olympic Games. Secretary of State Attila Czene informed about the
financial support of the state towards the meet. First confirmed star is
the local hammer hero and world medalist, current world leader

World Cup without the best walker Matej Toth who gives priority to

KYIV (UKR): Ukraine is sending teams for all races in Saransk. Men
senior 20 km team is composed by Ruslan Dmitrenko, Nazar Kovalenko,

walkers are Oleksiy Kazanin, Oleksiy Shelest, Sergiy Budza, Igor Glavan

ERIE (USA): Olympic marathon winner Constantina Dita is at age of 42
still thinking not only about London 2012 but also Rio de Janeiro 2016.

Olympics, but you never know, maybe if I rest two years I can take part

Conseil General here with 28:20, best French Ruben Lidongo was 9th
(29:35). Gutema Imana of Ethiopia was the best woman in 32:44 ahead of
improved French runner Laurane Picoche 33:34.
PUY (FRA, May 1): 18-years old Ethiopian Fikadu Haftu won in 43:10 the
15 km road race here. The course record remained at 42:43 level by Paul
Kosgei. Women winner was Kenyan Gladys Chepchirchir with 49:28 ahead of
the Ethiopian Aheza Kiros 49:48. Also here the course record of Iness
Chenonge 48:13 was not attacked.
MAROILLES (FRA, May 1): At the 20 km race here Ben El Hassane of Morocco
won in 59:05 ahead of Kenyans Kennedy Kimutai 59:07 and William Kipsang
59:43. Women race winner was Ethiopian Bizuayezhu Ehite in 1:08:58
clearly beating Leonida Mosop of Kenya 1:12:15.

ZHUKOVSKIY (RUS, Apr 29): Alevtina Ivanova won the Asics 10 km road race

Vincenzino leaped to 652 (+0.4) in the long jump and missed the Helsinki
standard only by 3 cm. Her best from 2009 is 654 cm.
