In that, I beg to differ. I think that, success in distance running requires dedication, hard work, focus and luck. Edna Kiplagat has all of those. She is such a good athlete, and works so hard, that she makes her own luck.
Her race with Mary Keitany in the Virgin London race was one of the most chilling races that I have seen in a long time.

people have come up with theories that Kenyans run better because of a
special gene in us. I don’ t know what gene they are talking about
because we have reached where we are as a result of hard work. If such
genes existed then I presume there is one among Brazilian footballers.”

Champion Edna Kiplagat is one of eight athletes represented by Boulder
Wave who will compete in the Olympic marathons this summer in London.
This group includes four athletes who have previously won world
championship medals in the marathon, and two who have previously won
Olympic medals in the marathon.
