Cregg Weinmenn sent us some comments on the Newton Running Launch. Cregg is the footwear and apparel review reviewer for the Running Network. Cregg was footwear editor of California Track & Running News from 1988 to 1998. In 1998, I asked him to take over as RN’s footwear reviewer. In developing the RN Shoe reviews, with the help of Kristen Cerer, designer and Christine Johnson, project manager, and of course, Marg Sumner, our proofreader, Cregg has focused his goal on helping our readers find the best shoe for their footstrike.
Recently, RN asked Cregg to develop runningproductreviews.com. As part of RN’s daily coverage of running footwear, Cregg will also be commenting on releases and reviews he finds of interest:
Cregg Weinmann commented on the release:
“The ability to grow a running shoe brand is not an easy task. Runners are a picky
bunch, but they are also passionate about running better, whether that means faster
or stronger, they want to be able to get out and keep going. Newton Running has made
headway in the running shoe game by being different. In my review of their
Motus/Motion model from Fall of 2007 I noted: “Newton is a new company whose
design premise enhances the naturally efficient gait of midfoot and forefoot
strikers.” The Motus/Motion was so well done that it won the award for Best New
Shoe that Fall. Since that time they have emphasized educating runners about
running form, especially effective form to maximize Newton’s action/reaction
technology. They have a new campaign called “Hello Better,” to get runners to
try their shoes for the next 60 days. Pretty ingenious really, because they will
be getting some education where they buy, at the 450 stores in North America, so
the chance of them liking what they try is pretty good. The special color of the
shoes – black and lime green for men; black and pink for the women, only adds
to the hoopla. “
