We posted a photo of Aries Merritt on December 29, 2017 and noted, how do you measure the importance of Aries Merritt? Many agreed, so we resposted this video.
During the week of April 7-13, 2013, a small group of journalists, joined by a photographer and a video team visited Aries Merritt (April 8-9), Ashton Eaton (April 11-12) and then, some of Alberto Salazar’s Training Group (Mo Farah, Galen Rupp, Cam Levin, Matt Centrowitz) on April 13. It was a fascinating visit to see some of the best athletes and coaches in our sport.
Aries Merritt was the first visit. His workouts, his view on the sport and his own development, and his relationship with his coach/advisors, continue to evolve as Aries comes to grips with being the World record holder at 110 meter hurdles.
That 12.80 seconds surely changed his life: in less than thirteen seconds, Aries Merritt became the guy with promise and a gold medal, to the guy with the gold medal and the World Record. The bulls eye on his back is very large now, no different than a yellow jersey in cycling: Aries Merritt is the target of all 110m hurdlers in the world.
Aries Merritt is racing the next three weekends: May 18 in Shanghai DL, May 25 in New York City at the adidas Grand Prix and on June 1 in Eugene, Oregon at the Nike Prefontaine Classic.
