Tiru and Meseret to double
ADDIS ABABA (ETH): Both top Ethiopian female long distance stars are aiming for a double in Moscow. Tirunesh Dibaba and Meseret Defar want to run both 5000 m and 10 000 m. They did not run together this year and won all their races except Defar in Shanghai 5k. With them in the 5000 m Almaz Ayana and in the 10 000 m Belaynesh Oljira. Legendary Kenenisa Bekele is only a reserve for the 10 000 m. There in the team title defender Ibrahim Jeylan with Dejen Gebremeskel, Abera Kuma and Imane Merga. In the 5000 m selected Yenew Alamirew, Hagos Gebrhiwot and Muktar Edris. In the 1500 m races Aman Wote with Mekonen Gebrmedhin and Abiyot Abinet and among women Genzebe Dibaba, Senbira Teferi and Gelete Burka. In the steeple races three strong women Sofia Assefa, Hiwot Ayalew and Etenesh Diro. Two men selected are Roba Gari with Habtamu Jaleta. Mohamed Aman and Aman Wote will run the men 800 m and Fantu Magiso the women race. Marathon selection includes Tsegaye Kebede, Lelise Desisa, Feyisa Lelisa, Tadese Tola and Tilahun Regasa. Women team is composed by Tiki Gelana, Feyse Tadese, Meseret Hailu, Meselech Melkamu and Merima Mohamed. Other reserves named are Zebene Alemayehu for men 1500 m, Yigrem Demelash for men 5000 m, Buze Deriba for women 5000 m and Ababil Yeshanew for women 10 000 m. Romanian women and men from Turkey
STARA ZAGORA (BUL, Jul 28): Balkan Championships ended here with Romanian women winning the nations with 202 points ahead of Bulgaria 195 and Turkey 187. In men ranking Turkey 192 over Romania 187 and Bulgaria 181. In men events Serbian Emir Bekric won the 400 m hurdles in meet record 48.96. Olympic medalist Marian Oprea from Romania got 17.24 (+1.7) triple win. Greek record holder Kostas Douvalidis won the hurdles in 13.44 (+2.3) and Bulgarian Petar Kremenski got the 200 m gold in 20.79 (-0.5). Turkey´s Irfan Yildirim won the discus 63.01 over Romanian Sergiu Ursu 62.78. Top women result was the 676 (-0.3) by Serbian Ivana Spanovic in the long jump. Good high jump for Adonia Stergiou from Greece 195, second Mirela Demireva 192 and third Ana Simic 188. Radoslava Mavrodieva won the shot put for the home country 18.08 with second World youth champion Emel Dereli of Turkey 16.02. Amela Terzic scored a double with4:16.70 in the 1500 m. Roxana Birca won the 5000 m for Romania15:40.61 and Vania Stambolova was back to winning in the 400 m hurdles 56.21. Romania clocked good 3:29.13 in the women 4×400 m.

LONDON (GBR): Double Olympic champion Mo Farah provided running and fitness tips to a group of local school children at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, as he revealed the course for the inaugural Richmond Running Festival on Sunday. Farah, a former resident of the West London Borough who trained for years in Richmond Park, formally launched details of the various races and courses for the first ever Richmond Running Festival due to be held in Old Deer Park on 22 September this year. The Festival is part of Richmond’s London 2012 Olympic legacy programme. It will include half marathon and 10km races for adults, with strong elite fields in each, plus a number of free-to-enter events for children of all ages from Year 1 primary to secondary school teenagers.
DAKAR (SEN): African Sports Ministers have finally endorsed the dissolution of the defunct Supreme Council of Sport in Africa, transferring the All African Games organization to the Associations of National Olympic Committees of Africa, ANOCA, starting with the 2015 edition in Congo. This means ANOCA will henceforth administrate the organization of the Games while the Association of African Sports Confederationsheadquartered in Cameroon will coordinate the technical aspects. LONDON (GBR): Kenyan distance runner Irene Cheptai collapsed after just completing the 3000 m at the London Diamond League, reports the Daily Mail. Cheptai was carried off the track unconscious as doctors administered her oxygen. Reports say that the 21 year old gained consciousness at the hospital.
LONDON (GBR): The Olympic and World 100m Hurdle champion, Sally Pearson of Australia celebrated a return to winning form at the London DL, reports Reuters. The 26 year old ran a season’s best of 12.65 finishing ahead of Briton Tiffany Porter and American Kellie Wells. She stated her relief on taking the win and explained that it has been very frustrating for her to get “smashed” by her opponents as she returned to competition following multiple hamstring injuries. Pearson said that it was a “shame” that the favourite for the world title, Brianna Rollins, hasn’t competed against her in Europe this year.
NAIROBI (KEN): The men’s 1500m world champion, Asbel Kiprop of Kenya, has said that he has no injury concerns and that the Kenyans will implement team work to reach their potential at the World Championships, reports Standard Media. Kiprop finished a disappointing 12th in the London Olympic final due to a hamstring injury. He showed no signs of injury, in his last competitive outing before the championships, at the Monaco Diamond League. He demonstrated his incredible form by running aggressively to win in a time of 3:27.72, the fourth fastest of all time.
LONDON (GBR): Reigning world 100 m champion Carmelita Jeter scratched with tightness in her quadriceps after clocking a season’s best 10.93 in the 100 m heat in London on Saturday.

In short sprint second Jamaican Julian Forte 9.98 over Andrew Fisher also from Jamaica 10.16 and South African Roscoe Engel 10.20. Fastest legal time 10.32 (+1.8) in heats by Simon Magakwe of South Africa. In the 200 m Julian Forte won his race in 20.22 (+3.1). CHULA VISTA (USA, Jul 27): German Rene Stauss leads the decathlon at the Thorpe Cup with 4204 points, he cleared 216 in the high jump. US Gray Horn is second 4124 points. In heptathlon Chelsea Carrier-Eades leads with 3606 points ahead of Kiani Profit 3554 and best German Maren Schwerdtner 3508.

NINOVE (BEL, Jul 27): To Saturday meet to add solid 5000 m in a mixed race 15:10.23 by US Amy Hastings followed by Belgian Almensch Belete 15:12.26, second best by European in 2013. In the women steeple the Dutch Helen Hofstede won in personal best9:42.91.
