Wilson Kiprop was hoping to run really, really fast. In Lisbon, in hot weather, he ran an amazing effort. Same is true for Valeria Straneo, the silver medalist from Moscow 2013.  We get way too obsessed about times and forget, somedays that our sport is still about the competition.

KIPROP AND STRANEO, GOOD DEBUT BY LEBID

LISBON (POR, Oct 6): A real sunny day for „Rock ‚n’ Roll Lisbon” this year on halfmarathon and marathon with 28 degrees temperatures. In the half marathon former world champion Wilson Kiprop won in course record 1:00:18 ahead of Goytetum Kifle from Eritrea 1:01:18 and another Eritrean Teklemariam Medhin 1:02:05. Surprising fourth place for Richard Sigei in 1:02:13 and only fifth World CC Champion Imane Merga in 1:02:40. 2011 Track World champion Ibrahim Jeilan debuted in 1:04:37 as 11th. Italian world medalist Valeria Straneo confirmed her shape with 1:09:23 win on this difficult course beating clearly the Africans. Second Degefa Debele 1:11:08 and third Firehiwot Dado 1:12:03. Straneo said after the race: „A beautiful day in Lisbon. I am happy for my result as I was so nervous on the course. I was feeling really good before my next marathon and my body answered very well controlling in last 2 km and not losing too much energy.” From village of Cascais started the first edition of marathon with an amazing beautiful course along the coast even if hot and windy. Kenyan Paul Lonyagata was the real surprise of the day being pacemaker (1:03:50) who also won the race in 2:09:45. Second in excellent marathon debut Sergiy Lebid the multiple European CC winner in 2:11:24. Agnes Kiprop did a great race in women category in 2:31:14 in front of her training partner Hellen Kiprop 2:32:05.
