Kipruto and Kilel
FRANKFURT (GER, Oct 27): Despite difficult weather conditions top times at the 32nd BMW Frankfurt Marathon. Kenyans Vincent Kipruto and Caroline Kilel triumphed as stormy and wet weather ruined hopes for record performances. Kipruto braved high winds to clock 2:06:15, beating fellow-Kenyan and debutant Mark Kiptoo by just one second (2:06:16). Elijah Kemboi finished third with 2:07:34 personal best. Half split was 1:03:06, Ethiopian favorites did not had their day as top five went for Kenya. Fourth Jacob Chesari 2:07:46 personal best and fifth Albert Matebor 2:08:17. Feyisa Bekele as sixth was best from Ethiopia 2:09:17 and pre-race favorite Dino Sefir 7th 2:09:22. The other one Feyisa Lelisa with a back problem dropped out at 37th km. Top European French Abdellatif Meftah as 10th in 2:11:05. The women’s race also produced good performances where Caroline Kilel ran a personal best of 2:22:34 (half 1:11:10), achieving her second Frankfurt victory following success in 2010. Flomena Chepchirchir another Kenyan as second 2:23:00 PB and Ethiopia’s Birhane Dibaba as third 2:23:01 PB at the finish line in the splendid setting of Frankfurt’s Festival Hall. Fourth Mamitu Daska 2:23:23 and fifth Eunice Kirwa also sub 2:24 with 2:23:45. Top European was German Anna Hahner in great personal best as 8th 2:27:55 (her twin sister Lisa was 11th in 2:30:17 also PB) ahead of Hilda Kibet representing Netherlands 2:28:49 and Swiss Maja Neuenschwander 2:29:42 life-time best. Former middle distance runner Gelete Burka debuted as 12th in 2:30:40. 14 964 runners from 96 nations entered the BMW Frankfurt Marathon, which is an IAAF Gold Label Road Race.
Machichim and Kibarus, Lalli debut
VENICE (ITA, Oct 27): Kenyan Nixon Machichim won on the diffcult course of VeniceMarathon in 2:13:10 beating another Kenyan Raymond Kandie in close sprint 2:13:11 and third was debuting European CC Champion Andrea Lalli in 2:14:26. This edition was influenced by bad weather with fog and high humidity. Andrea Lalli was quite happy about his debut: “With this kind of weather it was not possible for everyone run to run strong. But i am happy, I have understood that marathon is hard but no problem I like this kind of trainings and I am happy to go on with my new ambitions as a marathoner.” Also in women category a Kenyan win for Mercy Kibarus in good 2:31:14 over Ethiopians Halima Hassen 2:38:49 and Sosena Tekle Gezaw 2:42:29.
Chepkwony and Wami
LJUBLJANA (SLO, Oct 27): Kenyan Caroline Chepkwony won the 18th Ljubljana Marathon with top personal best 2:27:27. Also sub 2:30 for second placer Edinah Kwambai 2:29:35 PB and third Emily Samoei 2:30:01. Ethiopian Mulugeta Wami won the male category in 2:10:26 beating his team-mate Deribe Robi 2:10:30. Best Kenyan Julius Chepkwony was third 2:10:31 and Ishmael Bushendich fourth 2:10:32. Best Slovenians Anton Kosmac 9th in 2:24:57 and Zana Jereb 7th 2:42:09. No course records this time due to strong wind.
Wasihum and Jepkoech
MARSEILLE (FRA, Oct 27): Ethiopian Mulle Wasihum won the 35th edition of Marseille-Cassis 20 km race in 1:00:09. Second Kenyan Cyprian Kotut 1:00:11 and third another Ethiopian Tamirat Tola 1:00:14. Top French James Theuri was 9th 1:02:51. Best woman Josephine Jepkoech of Kenya got 1:10:03 ahead of team-mates Cynthia Jerotich 1:10:05 and Gladys Kipsoi 1:10:44. Double European Champion at 1500 m Mehdi Baala ended overall as 277th (1:23:32).
Bett with F. Kiplagat
PORTSMOUTH (GBR, Oct 27): Battling strong winds in Portsmouth, Emmanuel Bett and Florence Kiplagat scored a double victory for Kenya in the Bupa Great South Run on Sunday, while Charlotte Purdue and Andy Vernon led the British challenge with fine performances in third and fourth respectively. Informs Athletics Weekly. Bett clocked 48:03 at 10 miles over 2012 winner here Stephen Mokoka of South Africa 48:22. Third Ugandan Thomas Ayeko who won last weekend Great Birmingham Run (49:08). Vernon fourth 49:21 over US Abdi Abdirahman 49:23. In the women’s race Kiplagat soon built up a big lead over her rivals before inevitably slowing into the wind in the final stages to clock 53:53. The 26-year-old won the BMW Berlin Marathon late last month. Polline Wanjiku was second in 56:43 with Purdue a pleasing third in 56:57. Fourth Dominika Nowakowska from Poland (57:50).
OTHER MARATHONS
OSAKA (JPN, Oct 27): Kenyan Jackson Limo won the Osaka Marathon in 2:12:06. Second Mongolia´s Serod Batochir 2:13:31 and third best Japanese Atsushi Hasegawa 2:15:53. Monica Jepkoech won the women race in 2:39:23. Second Yuri Yoshizumi 2:41:00.
CHUNCHEON (KOR, Oct 27): Nixon Kurgat from Kenyan won the Chuncheon Marathon in Korea in new personal best 2:08:29. Second David Kemboi 2:08:30 and third Francis Kipkoech (at age of 40) 2:08:53. Best home runner Kim Hyo-Su as 8th clocked 2:17:40.
JAKARTA (INA, Oct 27): In hot and humid weather the first Jakarta International Marathon. William Chebor clocked 2:15:30 to win over Stephen Tum 2:15:35. Mulu Seboka clocked 2:43:57 as women winner from Ethiopia.
NAIROBI (KEN, Oct 27): The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon winner Kenneth Mungara in 2:12:28. Second Hosea Korir. Best woman was Winfridah Kwamboka. Ugandan Solomon Mutai was the best in the half marathon in 1:02:55.
CASABLANCA (MAR, Oct 27): In the 6th Casablanca Marathon Kenyan Milton Rotich won in new course record and personal best 2:08:55. Second Sintayehu Legese of Ethiopia 2:12:23 and home Abdelkrim Boubker 2:13:32. Ethiopian Gulilat Taye topped the women field in 2:34:46.
TOULOUSE (FRA, Oct 27): Kenyan Benjamin Bitok won the Toulouse Metropole Marathon in 2:10:43, new course record. Second Ethiopian Dadi Gemeda 2:11:45. French titles for Ruben Indongo 2:17:32 (4th overall) and Corinne Hebreteau-Cante 2:37:08 as best woman overall.
LUZERN (SUI, Oct 27): Swiss mountain running specialist Martina Strahl won the her debut at the SwissCity Marathon in Luzern in European 2014 qualifying time 2:39:15. She was overall 9th, top male runner was not under 2:30.
LAUSANNE (SUI, Oct 27): Briton Emma Pooley won the Lausanne Marathon in 2:44:29. Poland´s Maciej Miereczko as best male competitor achieved 2:29:02.
LUCCA (ITA, Oct 27): Claudia Dardini achieved 2:43:07 when winning the 5th Lucca Marathon. Male winner Moroccan Solfyane El Fadil achieved 2:29:12.
WASHINGTON (USA, Oct 27): Ethiopian Girma Bedada wont the 38th Marine Corps Marathon with a final time of 2:21:32. Women winner Kelly Calway of USA clocked 2:42:16.
PODGORICA (MNE,
Oct 27): Montenegro national record holder Sladana Perunovic won the 20th Podgorica Marathon in 2:42:33 and is also Balkan Champion. Second Kenyan Gladys Biwott in 2:43:00 and third Romanian favorite Paula Todoran 2:43:22. In men category Kenyan Anthony Wambugu was the best in 2:14:52. Second Yohanes Abera of Ethiopia 2:15:54 and third Ahmed Nasef of Morocco 2:16:01. Balkan champion Yolo Nikolov from Bulgaria as 6th in personal best 2:19:37.

HERVE (BEL, Oct 26): Abdelhadi El Hachimi and Hanna Vandenbussche won Belgian Half Marathon titles here in 1:08:35 and 1:20:29.
GLARUS (SUI, Oct 26): Fabienne Schlumpf won the Glarus City Run in 14:59 at 4.72 km over Sabine Fischer 15:28. Eritrean Berhe Zeremariam as best men runner got 22:58 at 7.86 km in close finish over Guta Fikru also 22:58.
LOANO (ITA, Oct 27): National team member Elena Romagnolo won the Run Riviera Half Marathon in 1:14:58. Best male runner Eric Sebahire from Rwanda got 1:06:44.
GENT (BEL, Oct 27): New edition of LottoCrossCup started with relays competition. In women race Daring Leuven was the winning team, in men Vilvoorde AC.
VALLADOLID (ESP, Oct 27): Spanish Pablo Villalobos won the Medio Maratón de Tordesillas with 1:05:56. Second Mohamed Bouceta from Morocco 1:07:11. In women category Morrocan win for Saida El Mehdi 1:15:12.
BRISTOL (GBR, Oct 27): The 2013-14 British Athletics Cross Challenge Series got underway at Ashton Court with the Bristol Cross Challenge. The tough undulating course was made even more difficult by strong winds and intermittent rain but Dewi Griffiths (8 km in 28:07) and Katie Brough (6.5 km 24:39) weren’t hindered as they took the senior titles whilst the under 20 races were won by Jonathan Davies (6.5 km in 21:51) and Lydia Turner (4.5 km 16:51).
FALUN (SWE, Oct 27): Eritrean Meraf Bahta won during second day of Swedish CC Championships the women 8 km race in 28:59 ahead of Frida Lunden 29:31 and steeple runner Charlotta Fougberg 29:42. Mikael Ekvall topped the men 12 km in 38:29. Second Haben Idris 39:06 and third Abraham Adhanom 39:33. Saturdaywinner at shorter distance Andreas Ahwall was 5th 39:44.
TAIPEI (TPE, Oct 23): Lo Yen-Yao won the 200 m at National Games in 20.99 (0.0) and second Yang Chun-Han improved at age of 16 the national junior record to 21.09.
AMMAN (JOR, Oct 24): Top times in the steeple at the 2nd West Asian Youth Championships. In boys 2000 m steeple new national junior record 5:43.06 for Bahraini Evans Ruto Chembotok. In the girls steeple Ruth Chebet clocked Asian senior and junior records 6:17.58. She won for Bahrain this year the Asian senior championships in the steeple with 9:40.84 senior national mark.
