One of the incredible moments of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics was the men’s high jump. Two of the most entertaining and talented high jumpers in the sport, Mutaz Barshim and Gianmarco Tambieri, battled for the high jump title and tied.
The Doha Diamond League meeting opens the Diamond League on May 13, 2022. The quality of the meet is so high each year. I was fortunate to visit the Doha Diamond League meeting for several years. It opened my outdoor season. This high jump will be extraordinary!

DOHA (QAT): Olympic high jump champions Mutaz Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi will face off at the Doha Diamond League on 13 May. Having accepted a tied gold at Tokyo 2020, the duo are long-standing friends and rivals. World champion Barshim said: “We made history with our Olympic gold, but my focus is now entirely on defending my world title in Eugene later this summer. The men’s high jump is currently at a very high standard. We must all continue to work hard if we’re to push the boundaries of our sport. My training has been going well and I’m looking forward to competing again.”
