WORLD LEADS: 20.32 BATSON AND 839 LAWSON
ALBUQUERQUE (USA, Mar 14): First day of NCAA Division I Championships registered expected world leads in the men 200 m. In the first final Dedric Dukes 20.34 but then in second Diondre Batson was even faster with 20.32. For both big personal bests and fastest indoor 200 m times in last 6 years. Also to note second in first final Tyreek Hill 20.57 PB ahead of Canadian Aaron Brown 20.64 and Aldrich Bailey 20.66 PB. In second final second Carvin Nkanata 20.52 PB ahead of 400 m specialist Arman Hall 20.55 PB and Spanish record for Bruno Hortelano 20.75. Unexpected world lead for World Junior 2012 bronze medalist Jarrion Lawson in long jump. The Arkansas athlete (will be 20 years old in May) did not had 8 meters jump before this meet and achieved his PB in fifth round 801 before leaping to huge 839 in the last jump (16th perfomer all-time indoors). Second Corey Crawford 801. Another world lead was expected from Kamaria Brown in the women 200 m but she did not finish her final due to hamstring issues (22.93 in heats) and title went so to Dezerea Bryant 22.69 with Kyra Jefferson overall second when winning the first final in 22.79 (for both lifetime bests). Lawi Lalang will not be a triple winner here as he lost the 5000 m to another Kenyan talent Edward Cheserek (13:46.67 to 13:52.83). Great 232 for high jump win by James Harris over favorite Nick Ross (229) and bronze for Marcus Jackson also 229 (equaled PB). World leader Michael Lihrman won the weight throw 23.25, in women section Brea Garrett 22.15 ahead of Ida Storm with Swedish record 21.90. Women long jump winner Briton Lorrain Ugen leaped to great PB 673 cm. Kaitlin Petrillose surprised with 460 improvement to take the pole vault win. It was her fourth personal best of the evening (445, 450, 455 and 460). Abbey D´Agostino won as expected the 5000 m in 16:20.39. From prelims to note World leader Deon Lendore of Trinidad 45.60 in the 400 m, fast 6.54 PB´s in 60 m heats for Diondre Batson and Cameron Burrell (also 6.56 Dentarius Locke and 6.58 Ryan Milus) and national record of Virgin Islands 7.57 by Eddie Lovett over the hurdles (also 7.57 improvement for young Jamaican Omar McLeod). In women heats fastest 7.17 Dezerea Bryant at 60 m, 51.29 PB by Phyllis Francis in the 400 m and 7.98 (personal best for both) hurdles of Jasmin Stowers and Janice Jackson.
