EUGENE (USA): David Rudisha’s coach Colm O’Connell admits that the 25 year old Kenyan’s return to racing at this weekend’s Prefontaine Classic will be “like being thrown into the deep end,” after missing so much racing due to a knee injury, report AFP. “People will be anxious and are waiting to see how Rudisha will fare having been out for too long,” said the Irish coach. “There’s always a challenge to come back from injury straight into a big race. “But David is an experienced athlete not to put pressure on himself. He’s seeking a confidence boost to his running. Luckily we have not seen an outstanding performance in the men’s 800m this season, so the athletes will be almost at the same level of competition in Oregon.”
(Editor’s note: Many expressed surprise, even incredulity that Rudisha would open in such a tough race. With everyone gunning for the World record holder, it would be somewhat like that anywhere. The issue is this: when has Pre has a bad year in the 800 meters? )
