Just a fantastic second day! In the rain, Anezka Drahotova, one of the most amazing athletes in athletics, set a World Junior record in the 10,000m RW. Jiri Sykora shows, with his come from behind gold, that he is in the tradition of the great multi eventers from the Czech Republic: Tomas Dvorak and Roman Sebrle, to name a few!

The 100 meter finals were exceptional! Diana Asher-Smith was tremendous, with her amazing win. On the men’s side, Kendal Williams surprised himself almost as much as Trayvon Bromell, who lost that race in his first five steps, and spent the rest of the race trying to catch up.

EUGENE (USA, Jul 23): Second day of World Juniors was a Czech day with two gold medals. In the morning Anezka Drahotova won the 10 000 m walk in World junior record 42:47.25 clearly over Chinese duo Wang Na 44:02.64 and Ni Yuanyua 44:16.72. Then Jiri Sykora fulfilled his favorite role in decathlon with 8135 points meet record (junior heights, implements) showing that new Zmelik, Dvorak or Sebrle is here. Australian Cedric Dubler as second continental junior record 8094 and bronze for German Tim Nowak 7980. Highly anticipated 100 m finals were unfortunately staged against head-wind at legendary Hayward Field. Dina Asher-Smith clocked 11.23 (-1.0) to win gold for Britain over Agnes Tenorio of Ecuador 11.39 (see corrections) and home favorite Kaylin Whitney 11.45. In the men 100 m final surprise win for Kendall Williams 10.21 (-0.6) over World junior record holder Trayvon Bromell 10.28, bronze for Japanese star Yoshihide Kiryu 10.34. Ethiopian girls dominated the 5000 m with Alemitu Haroye 15:10.08 and Alemitu Hawi 15:10.46 PB, distant third Kenyan Agnes Tirop 15:43.12. Barbados Akela Jones won the long jump 634 (-2.7) in close battle over NorwayÂ´s Nadia Akpana Assa 631 (-0.4) and Maryse Lozolo of Germany 624 (-1.5). Remaining two events had European winners. Morgan Lake with 6148 PB in heptathlon, silver for Yorgelis Rodriguez of Cuba 6006 and bronze for Dutch Nadine Visser 5948. Alyona Shamotina of Ukraine fulfilled favorite role in girls hammer 66.05 over Hungarian Reka Gyuratz 64.68 and Iliana Korosidou of Greece 63.67. Not a good day for Jamaican sprinters as Minzie and OÂ´Hara did not qualify for 100 m finals, the same for Manley in the 400 m. Wilhelm Belocian was despite head-wind fastest in 110 m hurdles semifinals 13.23 (-1.6) as David Omoregie of Britain won the other semi 13.36 (-0.3). Reported crowd for Wednesday was 7085 spectators.
