All of Australia breathed a sigh of relief when Sally Pearson, World and Olympic champ, regained her CG title! Running a fine 12.69 in the heats, Sally Pearson ran 12.67 to take the title. A shout of joy and celebration followed as the classy Aussie hurdler showed that one can comeback from injuries at this very competitive level.

GLASGOW (GBR, Aug 1): On the 6th day of action in Hampden Park at the Commonwealth Games, Moses Kipsiro (27:56.11) successfully defended his 10 000m title in a photo finish with Kenya’s Josphat Bett (27:56.14). Both passed Canada’s Cam Levins (27:56.23) in the final metres in a thrilling sprint finish. World champion Eunice Sum controlled the women’s 800m from the front, taking gold in 2:00.31. Scotland’s Lynsey Sharp (2:01.34) sprinted past Winnie Nanyondo of Uganda (2:01.38) in the final stretch to take silver. 19 year old Jessica Judd ran 2:01.91 for 4th. World and Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi couldn’t regain his Commonwealth title in the 3000mSC, he was beaten by the World number 1 this year Jairus Birech, but both finished behind two time World Junior champion Jonathan Ndiku, who led the Kenyan sweep with a games record of 8:10.44. Birech clocked 8:12.68 for silver, Kemboi 8:19.73 for bronze. Australia’s Sally Pearson led throughout to take the 100mH title in 12.67 (-0.1), England’s Tiffany Porter won silver in 12.80 and Canada’s Angela Whyte bronze in 13.02. 18 year old Eleanor Patterson of Australia won the high jump with first attempt clearance of 194. The World Youth champion took three unsuccessful attempts at 196. England’s Isobel Pooley took silver (PB) and St Lucia’s Levern Spencer bronze, both with best marks of 192. There was another gold for Australia in the women’s discus, Dani Samuels threw 64.88 in the third round for a clear victory. India’s Seema Antil (61.61 SB) won silver, England’s Jade Lally (60.48 SB) bronze. England’s Steve Lewis and Luke Cutts both cleared 555 on their first attempt and missed 560 three times. On knockout, they both failed again at 560, but then Lewis was the only one over 555. Canada’s Shawn Barber vaulted 545 for bronze.
