This is Coffee with Larry for September 9, 2023.

Coffee with Larry is our almost daily podcast, where we speak about the news in the sport, and Larry goes down various rabbit holes on a daily basis. Something new, something old.

Our topics today:

  1. The seasons get more exciting by the day. The Memorial Van Damme was well-orchestrated, with a WR at 2,000 meters and a wonderful series of attempts to rewrite the PV world record.
  2. Jakob Ingebrigtsen takes a new WR at the 2,000 meters, which had been held by Hicham El Guerrouj  since 7 September 1999 at 4:44.79, as the young Norwegian runs 4:43.13.
  3. Kenny Bednarek ran 19.79, and Zharnel Hughes ran 19.82. Andre De Grasse runs his finest run of the year in 19.89.
  4. Mondo Duplantis clears 6.10m and makes three great tries in 6.23m. Sam Kendricks clears his best clearance of the year of 2023 with 5.92m.
  5. Elaine Thompson-Herah runs her finest time of the season with 10.84. Natasha Morrison ran 10.95, and Dina Asher-Smith ran 10.97.
  6. Shericka Jackson ran the furlong in 21.48, with Anthonique Strachan at 22.31 and Jenna Prandini at 22.47.
  7. Cynthia Bolingo upsets Leike Klaver, 50.09 to 50.16, with Shamier Little, 50.58.
  8. Laura Muir runs the race of the year in 3:55.34, pushing by Ciara Mageean, who broke the Irish NR once again in 3:55.87. Ninth place was 3:59.19.
  9. Lilian Rengeruk, KEN, won the 5,000m in 14;26.46. Medina Eisa, ETH, 14:28.94, Nozomi Tanaka, JPN, 14:29.18.
  10. Femke Bol runs 52.11 to win the 400 m hurdles, Janieve Russell, JAM, 53.80, and Rushell Clayton, JAM, 54.10.
  11. Yaroslava Mahuchikh, UKR, takes the HJ in 2.00m. Angelina Topic, SRB, 1.97 NR, and Eleanor Patterson, AUS, 1.94m.
  12. Shaneika Ricketts won the TJ in 15.01m, Marnya Bekh Romanchuk took second in 14.57m, Thea Lefond, 14.49m.
  13. Chase Ealey wins the shot put in 20.05m, Sarah Mitton, CAN, took second in 19.76m, Maggie Ewan in 19.64m.
  14. Haruka Kitaguchi, JPN, won the javelin in 6.7.38m NR. Victoria Hudson, AUT, 64.65m, Lita Muze-Sirma, 63.00m.
