A great introduction to the Distance Medley for the 15,000 fans in Thomas Robinson stadium!
In a wonderful evening of track for US fans, a superb distance medley team of Treniere Moser (1200 meters), Sanya Richards-Ross (400 meters), Ajee’ Wilson (800 meters) and Shannon Rowbury (1600 meters) ran a controlled race to set a new WR for the newly globally heralded Distance Medley, running 10:36.50, taking six seconds off the current World Record.
The 1200 meters was pretty close, then, Sanya Richards-Ross, she of gold medal 400 meters fame, just opened up the race. Ajee’ Wilson, the fastest in the world at 800 meters, broke the race open.
Shannon Rowbury, running within herself, did the job, and took that 1600 meters home, winning in 10:36.50!
A fantastic run for a super group of American women distance runners and middle distance runners.
And dare we say, first WR of the Relays.
Also, nice check to split, $50,000 for a new World record!
