Anticipation is building for the 116th Millrose Games, as this iconic event is now just 26 days away. As always, the day will conclude in style with the running of the legendary NYRR Wanamaker Miles, a tradition with over 100 years of history. The women’s race promises to be a thriller, as Laura Muir and Elle Purrier St. Pierre, the previous two event champions, are both set to toe the line.

The 116th Millrose Games will take place at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory on Sunday, February 11th.

Muir is the reigning Olympic silver medalist in the 1500m, and she added a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2022. She is also a Commonwealth Games champion and a seven-time European champion indoors and outdoors, and she holds seven national records for Great Britain. Muir set the event record at the prestigious 5th Avenue Mile, and she followed that performance with a victory at the 2023 Millrose Games, running 4:20.15 to win her debut Wanamaker Mile.

Purrier St. Pierre announced herself as one of the best middle-distance runners in the world back in 2020, running a stunning time of 4:16.85 in the Wanamaker Mile to set the meet and American record. That mark remains the third-fastest indoor mile in world history. She successfully defended her Millrose title in 2021 before also reaching the 1500m Olympic final and taking the 3000m silver medal at the World Indoor Championships. The 2024 indoor season marks Purrier St. Pierre’s return to the track after the birth of her first child.

Also figuring to challenge for the win is Ethiopia’s Axumawit Embaye, a two-time World Indoor Championships silver medalist in 2014 and 2022. With both a sub-four minute 1500m and a sub-4:20 mile on her resume as well, Embaye will look to challenge the two past champions.

“We are so delighted to have this level of competition during the NYRR Wanamaker Miles again this year,” remarked Armory Foundation Co-President Rita Finkel. “It is spectacular to have our two past champions back to contest this important race.”

The NYRR Wanamaker Mile field is loaded with other elite athletes eager for their shot at top honors.

-Sinclaire Johnson is the 2022 US 1500m champion and a World Championship finalist.

-Katie Snowden is the 2023 British 1500m champion, and she is second on the all-time British 1500m list behind Muir.

-Josette Andrews was the runner-up in the 2023 Wanamaker Mile.

-Jessica Hull holds six national records for Australia, including the mile indoors and outdoors.

-Marta Pérez placed ninth in the 1500m at the Tokyo Olympics, representing Spain.

-Dani Jones was a three-time NCAA champion for the University of Colorado.

-Sage Hurta-Klecker was a two-time NCAA champion, and she is now one of America’s fastest 800m runners.

-Susan Ejore of Kenya was a two-time NCAA champion on the DMR while at the University of Oregon.

The winner of the mile at the Dr. Sander Invitational on Saturday, January 27th, will also be added to this stellar field.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks before the 116th Millrose Games as the world-class start lists are finalized. Top athletes already confirmed to compete include Yared Nuguse, Alicia Monson, Grant Fisher, Danielle Williams, Josh Kerr, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Christian Coleman, Keni Harrison, Andre De Grasse, Nia Ali, Chris Nilsen, and KC Lightfoot, with even more Olympians and World Championship medalists still to come.
