Brits in Zurich

Mary Moraa won in the 800m, with Georgia Bell second in 1:57.94.  Jemma Reekie was fourth in 1:58.49. What a season Bell has had!  Relatively unknown at the beginning of the year and finishing with an Olympic and World Indoor medal, establishing herself as world-class in 800 and 1500m.  She commented on her race and year: “I was in lane one, so I knew I had to get out hard. I tried to be in the front group and then walked through at the end. I am delighted with my race style and my second place. I wanted to win a DL, and I have had a few second places today, so I really hope to win in Brussels. After Paris, I took a few days, saw family and friends, and showed my Olympic medal to my grandmother. After my last race, I will see where the hottest place in Europe is, and then I will go on a holiday there. I had a fantastic season; I am so proud of what I achieved”.

Dina Asher-Smith was third in the 100m in 10.89, behind Sha’Carri Richardson and Julien Alfred.  Darryl Neita was seventh in 11.1. Dina commented: “The weather could have been better, but I’m from London! When you grow up in this weather, and it rains, you know it’s just another Tuesday. I was happy with my performance, so just some more training and on to Brussels”.

Josh Kerr (3:31.46) was fifth in the 1500, which was won by Yared Nuguse in 3:29.2. Kerr Said that the 5th Ave mile will be his last race of the season, adding: “It’s been a long year, from chasing world records in February to running in September. Everything was focused on the Olympics, and now I’m just having fun. I didn’t quite have it tonight, but that’s how it sometimes goes”.

Alex Haydock-Wilson ran 45.41 for second place in an early evening 400m. Alex said: “The race was fun. The crowd was fantastic. The stadium is stunning – despite the weather, but that is something I should be used to coming from the UK”.

Scott Lincoln was fifth in the shot with 20.82, and Jacon Fincham-Dukes was fourth in the long jump with  7.92 in wet conditions.
