1. Have we gone too far celebrating otherworldly fast times in marathons?

2. Were you more excited with the women’s Olympic marathon finish or Ruth Chepngetich’s WR?

3. A member of the Kenyan Parliament demanded Robert Johnson’s apology to Ruth Chepngetich over his question about the cloud of doping in Kenyan sports. We think that Robert Johnson was fully in the right.

4. Many Kenyans are very upset about the accusations against Ruth Chepnegetich. One asked me if it was because Ruth was not white?

5. John Korir won the men’s race, taking a pack of ten through the half in 1:02:19, breaking the field of 7 down at 21 miles, and winning in 2:02:44 PB. Here’s my story: https://marathonhandbook.com/opinion-why-its-hard-to…/

6. John’s win was overshadowed by the paradigm-shifting WR of Ruth Chepngetich, who became the first woman under 2:11 and 2:10, with a PB of 2:09;56, finishing 11th overall. Here’s Justin Lagat’s story: https://marathonhandbook.com/opinion-why-its-hard-to…/

13. Amby Burfoot, former editor at RW, Boston 1968 Marathon champion, and one of our sport’s most thoughtful and conscientious writers, wrote this piece on his misgivings on the Women’s WR set by Ruth Chepngetich at the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon WR (posted October 15, 2024): https://marathonhandbook.com/opinion-why-its-hard-to…/

14. RunBlogRun has requested comments from both Athletics Integrity and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on the drug testing protocals used with Ruth Chepngetich. We will be reaching out to several other experts to provide a complete picture on the record. As a journalistic site on running, we must look at both sides of any photograph. The WR in Chicago was insane, as I called it, but to appreciate it, we must know if it is legitimate and with the amount of doping in Kenya, questions are only natural.
