Few takeaways.

A day today hearing from some of the top athletes and coaches in Athletics as a part of the media coverage for tomorrow’s meeting.

A diverse group of athletes in terms of discipline, nationality and time and place in athletics—took part in the morning presser and again I am always struck by the huge number of countries participation world wide in our sport.

The Olympics are still the pinnacle of Athletics, but it seems athletes are open to the new Michael Johnson inspired, Grand Slam Track: https://www.grandslamtrack.com

And other professional opportunities.

Parker Valby: https://www.gainesville.com/story/sports/columns/2024/06/03/floridas-parker-valby-is-on-track-for-running-greatness/73841572007/  is coping with Boston weather and appreciating the great team of athletes and Coach at New Balance she now works with.

Future is wide open. Interesting seeing Boston become a training camp again— though the group decamp to high altitude often.

Grant Fisher who came home from the Paris Olympics with two bronze in the 5&10K will run the 1500m. And here I was ready to ask him about his running a marathon soon. (Conner Mantz and Clayton Young were in Boston yesterday running the marathon course).

In the afternoon I headed to the Track @ New Balance to observe the athletes work outs and happily met up with former Michigan coach for 36 years now retired?Ron Warhurst.

Ron’s energy and enthusiasm and long record of success are inspiring. I first read about him in Track & Field News 50 years ago and my teammate with the Greater Boston TC beginning in 1978, Greg Meyer, who ran for Ron at Michigan, introduced some of those workouts to our group.

As I spoke with Ron and recorded the attached audios, a high school coach from Mercer Island Washington State , Susan Empey, overheard and shared that her favorite workout was the Warhurst staple the “Michigan”

The more things change…

Time to rest up for a great day of Athletics tomorrow.
