Our topics;
1. Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe won the IOC Presidency. Here’s story in Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/mar/21/ioc-kirsty-coventry-sebastian-coe-olympic-politics

2. Yes, she was supported by Thomas Bach.
3. Seb Coe finished third in the voting, with 8 votes. All women delegates voted for Ms. Coventry. Mr. Bach did his homework, Samaranch and Coe did not have a chance. Well done Olympic politics. What would one expect from the most important sport organization in the world (well, besides FIFA).
4. Congrats to Kirsty Coventry, the first African and first woman to take IOC position.
5. Wonder what Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of Modern Olympics would have thought of a women as IOC President? Like men of his era, he did not think working class nor “colonials”, what he called people of color should compete in sports. He was okay with some women’s sports, but quite limited. An imperfect human being, like all of us, he did bring us the modern Olympics.

6. Seb Coe will continue with his World Athletics position and congratulated Ms. Coventry on her new position! Here’s a piece from the Spectator: https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/how-does-the-olympics-restore-its-reputation/

7. The World Indoor Champs is March 21-23, 2025.

See you soon on Coffee with Larry!
