The World record mania in this track season kept others very excited. The 2025 Millrose Games on February 8 had WR at 3,000m, with Grant Foster and Cole Hocker breaking the previous record. Right after that, Yared Nuguse and Hobbs Kessler battled over the mile, both going under 3:47, with Yared Nuguse setting a new WR for the mile in 3:46.33.

Five days later, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke the 1,500-meter (3:29.83) and Mile (3:45.14) World records in the same race. The last time that happened was in 1954 when John Landy broke the 1,500m/Mile!

On February 14, 2025, Grant Fisher broke the world record of one Kenenisa Bekele, who ran 12:49.60 in 2004, with Grant Fisher’s brilliant 12:44.09. Grant ran the last 6 minutes of the race by himself, running 30-31 seconds per lap in a no-man land. In second, Jimmy Gressier of France ran 12:54.92, both a French National record and a European record!
In addition, Mondo Duplantis set a new World record in the pole vault on February 28, with his 6.27 meters, or 20 feet, 6.75 inches. This was Mondo Duplantis’ eleventh world record!

The challenge for writers in describing these athletes is this: how to describe athletes at their very best, who make these incredible performances look so easy. They are not. These are athletes at their very hightest fitness and they are giving their all.
February was awash in World Records, and we discussed their significance on Convos with Larry’s podcast!
