Maurie Plant was a wonderfully colorful coach, advisor, agent, and broadcaster from Australia. I met Maurie in 2006 with Ian Stewart, and Maurie was a key mentor for me. Maurie had opinions, and he could annoy the living hell out of some people, but I knew where his heart was. His insider’s view on the sport he loved really helped many journalists, coaches, athletes, and officials.

Maurie Plant would love this meet and how successful it has become!

To appreciate Maurie Plant, please listen to this excellent SoundCloud recording from August 2015 in Beijing, China. Maurie and I met to discuss the significant moments from Beijing. Maurie was at one of his most insightful moments. I truly miss my friend, as do his family and friends.

Melbourne WACT Gold sold out
MELBOURNE (AUS): Tickets for the Maurie Plant Meet – Melbourne (WACT Gold) on Saturday, have sold out, becoming the first one-day athletics meeting in Australia to sell out since the 2001 IAAF Grand Prix. “The Maurie Plant Meet has captured the public’s imagination. To sell out a one-day athletics meet in Australia for the first time in over two decades is exciting — not just for the event, but for the athletes and the sport overall,” Athletics Australia CEO Simon Hollingsworth said.
