A sub 27 minute 10,000 meters means that one has put, back to back, 25 laps on a 400 meter track, averaging 64.46 per lap! Chris Solinsky’s 26:59.6 was run in rarefied circumstances. Those circumstances, however, are not that rare at the Payton Jordan Invitational, which is nearly a yearly meeting for much of our country’s distance runners. Cool weather, a great track, a knowledgeable fans, and incredible fields! A week has gone by, and the race still rattles around in my brain! (Yes, my interview with Chris Solinsky will be up this week, sorry for the delay)!

K. Ken Nakamura sent us the progression of 10,000 meters under 27:00, and Chris joins a who’s who of great distance runners. My guess is that, we might see a couple more Americans on this list in the not so distant future.

Congratulations should continue to go to the Oregon Distance Project founder Alberto Salazar,  and his hand picked coach, Jerry Schumacher, former UW Badger coach, who gives his athletes not only the workouts that they need, but the self confidence to run with the worlds’ best! Just a hint: if there are already talks of getting the first sub 13:00 in North America at the Pre now, then, I would suggest getting those tickets NOW!
