Walt Murphy has sent us a note from Tom Jordan, Nike Pre Classic meet director, on a
memorial fund for Scott Davis, friend of many, voice of American track & field and iconic
story teller.

Walt Murphy’s News and Results Service  ([email protected])

Tom Jordan, the
meet director of the Prefontaine Classic, forwarded the following about
the establishment of the Scott Davis Memorial Fund. As you know, Davis,
the most prolific public address announcer in the sport(and one of the
great joke-tellers), passed away earlier this year after waging a long
and valiant battle against cancer.

“Last month, at the memorial service in LA, Scott Davis, Jr., described
to the overflow crowd how the folks at the Myeloma Research Institute
had really been responsible for keeping his dad alive for the past six
years. It was their dedication and expertise that enabled him to
brighten up our lives for years beyond expectations. Scottie challenged
the friends assembled to raise $100,000 in his Dad’s memory for the
Institute. If every one of Scott’s friends gives $100 (or more), we’ll
raise that amount in no time. I’d like to invite all of you to make a
donation in the memory of our good friend.”

Here’s the information about donating from Scott, Jr.:

The group is called the Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research. Folks can make donations one of three ways:

1) Write a check payable to IMBCR and mail it to:
Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research.
9201 Sunset Boulevard
Suite 300
West Hollywood, CA 90069

2) Go to the IMBCR website (www.imbcr.org) and click on the “Make Donation” button.   Secure donations can be made by completing the form.

3) Call the office at 310.623.1210 and let a staff member know that they want to make a donation.

In all instances,
people should make sure to mention that the donation is in honor of
Scott Davis Sr. The team there is keeping a list of all donations.

Please pass this information along to Scott’s many friends around the world.
