Usain Bolt opened his 200 meter distance in the rain of Oslo, Norway this evening, clocking a WL in 19.86. The crowd of 14,800 was entertained by four world leaders and two stadium records, plus two national records!

Bolt has now run two 100 meter races and one 200 meter race. His national championships are approaching, and we shall see how he and his fellow Jamaicans fare in that very challenging event.

Long time before we reach Daegu, Korea (78 days). Let’s see how Bolt and Gay look over the next several weeks.

Five things that did not surprise me in Florence

BOLT
RULES IN HIS EVENT (19.86)

OSLO (NOR, Jun 9): It
is always a nightmare for an
organizer to have bad weather, that happened at EXXON Mobil Bislett
Games, but
still spectators (14 800 sell out) celebrated a great evening of
athletics and
athletes produced some remarkable performances. It was raining at the
beginning
of the whole programme, it stopped for first part of the main programme
and
returned heavily for the most expected event, the 200 m with Usain Bolt.
The
sold out stadium registered three world leading marks (200 m, steeple,
800 m women), two stadium
records (men steeple and women shot put) and also two national records
(Saudi Arabia in the mile and Jamaica in the 110 m hurdles).
Interestingly
there is no one athlete in the Diamond events from Oslo who can register
three wins.

Event by event review

Men

200 m: Despite pouring rain Bolt clocked world leading 19.86 (+0.7) in
his first deuce since May 2010
in Shanghai.
Now back to Jamaica
for more training.

Dream Mile: Kiprop beats a good field and fulfilles his favorite role in
3:50.86 (3:36.34 1500 m
split).

Steeple: Koech was pushing so bravely that nobody stayed with him and
the reward new world lead and stadium record 8:01.83. Oly winner Kipruto second
8:05.40 and Mekhissi-Benabaad fourth with 8:14.38 EL.

110mH: Even without big guys a superb race with 13.12 for Merritt (+0.1)
and national record for Thomas 13.15 and PB for Joel Brown 13.20.

HJ: Suffered a lot in the rain. After jump-off Ioannou beats Silnov 228,
third Spank also 228. Ukhov with back problems no-heighted at 215.

LJ: Mokoena gets it with 808, he says does lot of training in rainy
weather. Second Morten Jensen of Denmark improved in that conditions
his season best to 801.

DT: Kanter managed to win with only two 65+ throws of the day, but
pointed out with Harting and Malachowski it would be tougher.

JT: De Zordo likes Norway
and is the winning type of competitor (83.94).

Women

100 m: Ivet Lalova is back after 7 years of difficulties and clocked windy
11.01 (+2.2). She confirms the number one position in Europe
after not best start.

400 m: Eugene
winner Montsho was clear winner in her fastest of 2011 (50.10). Czech Rosolova
with strong finish beat the rest (51.04).

800 m: After Rabat another top win for Hachlaf with world lead 1:58.27,
second Savinova 1:58.44 and third Semenya again faster 1:58.61 (4th best career
mark) ahead of Jepkosgei 1:59.05.

5000 m: Superb last lap in small Ethiopian champs. The most experienced
Defar wins 14:37.32 over Ejigu 14:37.50, G. Dibaba 14:37.56 and Melkamu
14:39.44. Spain´s Dolores Checa as 7th gets European lead 14:46.30.

400 mH: Czech Hejnova in 54.38 registered her first Diamond League win.
Second Shakes-Drayton 54.77 still over Barcelona
winner Antyukh 55.45.

PV: Another rain affected event, Murer with 460 was the winner.

TJ: In the wet conditions top jumps from Savigne 14.81 (+1.4) and
Saladuha 14.71 (+0.3), the top two in the world currently.

SP: Valerie Adams debuted this year in SDL with excellence 20.26 and beating
all main rivals.

Non-DL events

1500 m: Kenyan Olympian Nicholas Kemboi gets it in 3:37.25.

100mH: Great Norwegian win, Christina Vukicevic replaced Andreas
Thorkildsen as the major home star with fast 12.79 (+1.0) what is second
fastest in Europe this year and her third fastest ever.

indications
are that he slipped and fell down a steep 30-meter slope. Gonzalez
competed at
both the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games and also the 1982 European
Athletics
Championships. At the 1982 European Athletics Indoor Championships in
