Congratulations should be in order for Brant Kotch and Steve Karpas, of the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon, who won the Allen Steinfeld award. Allan Steinfeld, along the late Fred Lebow, put the New York Road Runners on course for much of their success today, and Allan was also the Race Director of the ING New York City Marathon for many years.
Brant Kotch and Steve Karpas have worked together on the Houston Marathon Committee for the past eleven years. In that time, the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon have grown from a very nice regional event to one of the top ten marathons in the world, with fields surpassing 30,000 and world class times in both the men and women’s races.
Over the past four years, the Aramco Houston Half Marathon has become one of the fastest half marathons in the world, and hosted the USA Half Marathon championships for several years. The ability to put on huge half marathon, marathon, 5k and a half marathon championship are not to be underrated.
On January 14, 2012, the U.S. Olympic Marathon Team trials will be hosted in Houston. On January 15, 2012, the Aramco Houston Half Marathon and the Chevron Houston Marathon will be run, with 30,000 of Brant and Steve’s closest friends.
Hosting men and women’s marathon Trials is a daunting task. But, Brant Kotch, Steve Karpas and their teams are up for the task. RBR wishes them well, congratulates them on their awards, and knows that January 16, 2012 can not come too soon!
