FORT ATKINSON – Scott’s MK4 tied for top honors as the best renovation in the Running Network LLC Spring Shoe Review.

“The Running Network LLC is excited to name, what our talented team believes to be, the best running performance footwear of spring 2012,” noted Larry Eder, the president of Running Network LLC. “Any shoe that wins its category has done an outstanding job to earn the title of best shoe.”

The 20 best running shoes on the market are put to the test each spring and fall in the Running Network LLC Shoe Review. Each shoe used in the testing process is carefully matched to the foot shape, motion and footstrike of 350 wear testers. Wear testers run 100 miles in the shoes while evaluating the shoes throughout the process on seven key performance characteristics. This data is entered into a software system developed by Cregg Weinmann, the Running Network LLC footwear and apparel review editor, to produce a winner in each category.

The Scott MK4 has morphed into something completely different from the round one version. The upper is open mesh over the toes and closed mesh on the saddle and rearfoot. The Ergologic Fit has been better integrated in this version to better secure the foot. The midsole foam is completely new and resilient. Scott has taken a new approach by combining a solid underfoot with a series of deep grooves that resist compression. In the new design the midfoot is supported solely by the carbon fiber shank. The outersole is more simplistic with thin carbon rubber throughout, grooves at the heel and toe and is textured for traction. Innovation, fit and performance tied the MK4 for top honors as the best renovation (Weinmann 2012).

“Great fit, snug in the midfoot but with good room for my toes. Well-cushioned, but not too soft. Really love ride,” said one wear tester when describing the MK4.

“There are considerable similarities in the running footwear industry and consumers need to be aware that there are shoes from many brands that could work for them. We reviewed many fine shoes that should be considered because they fit and perform differently on different runners, so trying several is the only way to find the best shoe for you,” said Weinmann.
