Caster Semenya won her 800 meter title in her countries’ championships, running 2:02.68 for the two lap race. Boston Marathon authorities, being proactive, are showing much concern for the field and the expected boiling conditions, with finish line area expected to be 91F to 96F (21C to 29C).

That means that many in the field, who run for charities, and who may not have experienced bad weather marathons, simply, should hang it up until next year. The BAA has a defer opportunity for 2013. Stay tuned.

OTHER NEWS

BOSTON
(USA): Concerned about the high temperatures forecast for Monday’s 116th Boston
Marathon, race officials announced that they were taking the unusual step of
allowing any of the more than 27 000 entrants to defer their participation in
the race until next year.   „Our first
and strongest focus is on the safety of the people who are running,” said
Boston Athletic Association executive director Tom Grilk in a hastily
called press conference this afternoon.
He continued: „We’re doing everything we can to provide for their
safety, but we need them to look out for themselves.” Any runner who picks up
their number this year but does not start the race will be automatically
qualified for the 2013 event. Barry Burbank, a weather forecaster at local
CBS affiliate WBZ, said today that „it would be at least 70 degrees (21C)” at
the start of the race and be „at least 85 degrees (29C)” at the finish line.

TOKIO
(JPN): Brett Larner informs that Team Shiseido announced that marathoner
Yoshiko Fujinaga, 30, has retired.
Fujinaga left the team on March 30 and plans to pursue a career as
a teacher. As a student at Isahaya H.S. in Nagasaki Fujinaga ran the
5000 m at the 1999 World Championships, going on to run the marathon at the
2009 World Championships.  Aiming for the
London Olympics, she finished only 38th at March’s Nagoya Women’s Marathon.

ROTTERDAM
(NED): The scratched Portugal runner from Rotterdam marathon is not Rui Pedro
Silva (runs Vienna marathon) but the former miler Rui Silva. He is 2004 Olympic
and 2005 World bronze winner in the 1500 m. Rui Silva has a problem with a cinnamon
and if he will be better he will run Hamburg or Dusseldorf marathon later in
the month.
