The 2013 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix is less than ten days away! One of the big draws is the Junior Miles and the Junior Relay Squads. The best prep milers of the New England area, plus their relay teams will duel on the 200 meter MONDO Super-X indoor track, to see, who gets the bragging rights for the 2013 NB Indoor Grand Prix.

Mary Cain, the high school phenom who ran a fine 9:02.10 for 3,000 meters less than two weeks ago, runs a mile in New York on January 26. After that event, Mary will run the two mile at the NBIGP.

If you can get there, buy tickets NOW, at www.nbindoorgrandprix.com! Don’t miss this meet!

Top Junior Milers, Relay Squads Set

for New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston

New England vs. New YorkRivalry Renewed in Relay Match-ups

BOSTON (Jan. 24, 2013) – The Patriots and the Giants will be watching the Super Bowl on television but the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will keep alive the sporting rivalry between Boston and New York with featured New England vs. New York boys’ and girls’ relays on February 2, organizers have announced. And true to the sport’s roots, the country’s top high school indoor milers will once again descend on Boston to try to claim a victory in what is the top event of its kind each year.

New York and New England diehard sports fans lamenting their NFL and MLB teams’ early exit from the playoffs will see a club boys’ 4 x 800 meters and girls’ 4 x 400 meters consisting of athletes from the top high school teams from both regions in a scored event. Firebirds TC, a club team of athletes from Kellenberg HS, leads the boys’ entries with a time of 7:51.72 already this season. New England’s top squad, Lowell TC, hasn’t posted a standout time just yet but the team of Lowell HS athletes won the 2012 Massachusetts Division 1 Cross Country Championships. Also in the field, Brookline TC has the fastest time in the state this season.

The Girls’ Junior Mile may be the deepest in the event’s history. Led by the 2012 New Balance Outdoor High School National Champion,Wesley Frazier from Ravenscroft High School in North Carolina, the event also features Maine’s first ever sub 5-minute high school girl,Bethanie Brown, and Connecticut’s indoor 800m state record-holder, Sarah Gillespie.
