GAY VS GATLIN

LAUSANNE (SUI): The 39th Athletissima will offer top sprinting clashes. In the 100 m Tyson Gay (in his return race) against Justin Gatlin and Jimmy Vicaut, the 200 m Yohan Blake with Nickel Ashmeade, Christophe Lemaitre and Churandy Martina. Another top clash will be the 400 m duel between LaShawn Merritt and Kirani James. “Lausanne has always been one of my favourite meets, and I’m thrilled to have it be my opening meet of 2014,” said Gay, who cited his comfort with the meeting and the organization as one reason for choosing it for his return to competition. “I have run fast times here. I have been training for several months, and will be ready on July 3.” Men steeple has Paul Kipsiele Koech against Brimin Kipruto, long jump all 3 Moscow medalists (Menkov, Gaisah and Rivera). In the women’s events, Swiss athlete Selina BÃ¼chel will have a good opportunity to confirm her talent in the 800m against Kenyan runner Eunice Jepkoech Sum, the reigning World champion. The javelin event will gather the world’s best athletes, led by Australian Kimberle Mickle, Moscow silver medalist and holder of the 2 best throws of the year. Finally, the Swiss 4x100m relay will have a glimpse of what to expect at the European championships, as they will be running against Great Britain, Germany and France.
