Moving up from her bronze medal over 5,000 meters at the Commonwealth Games, Jo Pavey wins the European Champs over 10,000 meters. The mother of two, just over forty years of age, defeated runners half of her size but with a third of her drive and none of Pavey’s racing savvy!

Here is how Alfons Juck notes the significant points, both high and low, from Day One, Session two.

He said that he did not feel any pain during the warm up.

ZURICH (SUI): Belgium’s Jonathan Borlée struggled to qualify out of the men’s 400m heats and admitted afterwards; “I’ve never had such a bad feeling in a major championship.” He cannot find enough strength for the final straight; “As usual, it went up to 250 to 300 meters. And then suddenly nothing worked.”
