Application Open for Entry to the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon

Both guaranteed and non-guaranteed entry applications will be open for one month, from January 15 through February 15

The 45th running of the iconic five-borough race will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2015

New York, January 15, 2015–The application for entry to the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon opened online at tcsnycmarathon.org today. The month-long runner application window for both guaranteed and non-guaranteed entry will remain open through February 15. The race, which is the premier event of New York Road Runners and the largest marathon in the world, will take place on Sunday, November 1.

“Following last year’s record-breaking field of runners and inaugural race with our new title sponsor, Tata Consulting Services, we’re excited to open the entry application for the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon,” said Mary Wittenberg, president and CEO of New York Road Runners. “Over the last 45 years, one million runners have experienced the thrill of taking center stage on New York City’s most inspiring day of the year. This year, another 50,000 will make the five-borough journey through the City’s unique neighborhoods and cheering crowds. We’ve tightened the application window to a month and moved up the entry drawing so that our field will have more time than ever to prepare for their experience of a lifetime.”

Runners who earned guaranteed entry can claim their spot during the month-long application window. Information regarding guaranteed entry is available online at tcsnycmarathon.org.

Non-guaranteed entry is gained through a drawing that brings together runners of all skill levels from around the world. The non-guaranteed applicant drawing will be held on March 3, 2015.

Runners can also receive a guaranteed spot in the race by running for NYRR’s Team for Kids. Team for Kids is a committed group of adult runners from around the world who add meaning to their miles by raising funds for NYRR’s Youth and Community Services programs. More than 200,000 students are served locally and nationally through NYRR’s free youth running programs, events, and resources, including more than 120,000 in New York City’s five boroughs. During the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon, the Team for Kids charity was led by Team for Kids Ambassador and tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, who, in her first-ever marathon, supported and raised funds for the charity running team. Information on guaranteed entry through NYRR’s Team for Kids is available online at runwithtfk.org.

The 2015 TCS New York City Marathon will feature the world’s top professional athletes and a vast range of competitive, recreational, and charity runners, as well as thousands of volunteers and more than one million neighbors and guests lining the streets of New York City’s five boroughs. The race will once again air live in New York on ABC7 and nationally on ESPN2.

About the TCS New York City Marathon

The TCS New York City Marathon is the premier event of New York Road Runners (NYRR) and the largest marathon in the world. Held annually on the first Sunday in November, the race features the world’s top professional athletes and a vast range of competitive, recreational, and charity runners. The race began in 1970 with just 127 entrants running four laps around Central Park, and expanded citywide in 1976. In 2014, a record 50,530 runners from 130 countries toured New York City’s five borough
s, starting on Staten Island at the foot of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and running through the neighborhoods of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, before ending in Manhattan at the iconic Central Park finish line. More than one million spectators line the city streets to cheer on the runners, while millions more watch the live television broadcast in the United States and around the world. The race is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, a series featuring the world’s top marathons–Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York–and crowning the top professional male and female marathoners of the series.
