Genzebe Dibaba wanted the 5,000 meter indoor WR, and on February 19, 2015, she did just that. Using a fast last 1000 meters of 2:47.14, Dibaba took almost six seconds off the indoor World record running, 14:18.81. Meseret Defar had set the former WR of 14:24.3 set, on the same track, six years ago.
With the 5,000 meter WR, Genzebe Dibaba had indoor World records for 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, two miles and now, 5,000 meters.
In honor of her brilliant new World record over 5,000 meters, RunBlogRun gives Genzebe Dibaba the February 2015 RunBlogRun Global Female Athlete of the Month!
Special thanks to the Shoe Addicts for their fine video on Genzebe Dibaba.
