KARLSRUHE (GER, Feb 4): Laura Muir broke Liliya Shobukhova’s 11-year-old European indoor 3000m record at the Indoor Meeting in Karlsruhe. Muir stopped the clock at 8:26.41 to move to fifth on the world indoor all-time lists behind Ethiopians Genzebe Dibaba (8:16.60), Meseret Defar (8:23.72), Meselech Melkamu (8:23.74) and Sentayehu Ejigu (8:25.27). Hellen Obiri improved her Kenyan indoor record to 8:29.46 with Axumawit Embaye fading to third in 8:49.52. There was another impressive British winner in the 60m hurdles with Andrew Pozzi winning the final in a 7.44 world-lead (after clocking a 7.49 world-lead in the heats) ahead of Orlando Ortega (7.59) and Petr Svoboda (7.63). Keni Harrison overcame a stumble in the 60m hurdes heats to win in 7.93 before dominating the final in 7.76 (just outside her 7.75 world-lead) ahead of Cindy Roleder (7.90) and Sally Pearson (7.91) on her season’s debut. Dina Asher-Smith equalled the world-lead in the 60m heats with 7.13 but had to settle for second in the final behind Jamaica’s Gayon Evans on her European indoor debut, 7.14 to 7.15. Elsewhere on the track: wins for Eric Sowinski (1:46.80) and Joanna Jozwik (2:01.26) in the 800m and Silas Kiplagat (3:38.51) in the 1500m. Highlight on the in-field was a 4.67m clearance from Germany’s Lisa Ryzih in the pole vault while Christina Schwanitz went out to 18.41m to defeat Dusseldorf winner Anita Marton 18.34m in the shot put. 20-year-old Pavel Seliverstau cleared 2.30m in the high jump (official WL) while Godfrey Mokoena went out to 8.05m in the long jump.
