The 200 meter men’s final was all about the racing. So much drama in the race, with Wayde Van Niekerk having won the 400 meters and done the rounds of the 200 meters, with a gutty run in the semi final!
In the final, Turkey’s Ramil Guliyev, who has lived and trained in Turkey for six plus years, prevailed. The Turkish sprinter, who had focused on the 200 meters, came off the turn and built his leed to the finish, putting Wayde Van Nikerk in the silver position and Jereem Richards in the bronze position.
Ramil was ecstatic! He spoke about the hard work, and his race that night. Wayde Van Niekerk was subdued: he felt frustrated that he had not recieved the recognition he believed due (and we agree) for his fine double. Jereem Richards had surprised many with his bronze (well, except Maurice Greene, who picked Jereem for third).
