The finest 400 meter in the world for the past several years, Wayde Van Niekerk, won the world champs in Beijing, Olympics in Rio, setting a WR, and the World Champs in London. In the cool weather of London, Van Niekerk challenged himself and ran the 200 meters as well, taking the silver medal in the 200 meters.

As Wayde Van Niekerk noted in the 200 meter post event presser, he challenged himself and he gave his best. It should have been a moment where Michael Johnson’s double was shown more respect and Wayde’s attempt should have been given serious respect. Instead, there were other issues involved, and many gave credit to an athlete who did not really compete the medals.
Wayde is now recovering from knee surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery, but, as his coach, IAAF coach of Year, Ans Botha told the media, it will take time and patience.
