2018 London Diary: Event by Event updates of Day 1, Athletics World Cup

The Athletics World Cup had entertained 30,000 on Saturday, July 14 and 25,000 on Sunday, July 15. Here’s a event by event update on day one from the 2018 Atheltics World Cup.

LONDON (GBR, Jul 14): Anita Wlodarczyk set a world lead in the hammer as USA lead after day one of the Athletics World Cup on 109 points. France are second on 85 and Poland third on 77. Among other top performances were those from Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, Michal Haratyk and Holly Bradshaw.
Event by event
Men
200m: Xie Zhenye crossed the line first in 20.25 (-1.1), two tenths ahead of Luxulo Adams while Ameer Webb was third on 20.51.
800m: Clayton Murphy clocked 1:46.52 for the win, ahead of Adam Kszczot (1:46.92). Elliot Giles was third with 1:47.40.
110m hurdles: Pascal Martinot-Lagarde ran his best for 2018 of 13.22 (+1.0), 0.08 ahead of Ronald Levy. Devon Allen was third with 13.36 as Andrew Pozzi hit the third double and did not finish.
High jump: Jeron Robinson jumped within a centimetre of his PB with 2.30m for the win. Wang Yu took second on 2.27m.
Triple jump: Poland’s Karol Hoffman won with a season’s best of 16.74m, pipping Donald Scott by a centimetre.
Shot: Michal Haratyk took victory with 21.95m from Darrell Hill (21.43m) and O’Dayne Richards (20.05m).
Discus: Fedrick Dacres won with 65.32m as Victor Hogan was second, throwing 63.73m.
4x100m relay: USA clocked 38.42 for the win,the team composed of Jeff Demps, Kendall Williams, Obi Ogbokwe and Cameron Burrell. Jamaica ran 38.52 for second and South Africa was third with 38.53. In close finish Germany fourth 38.56 and France fifth 38.61.
Women
100m: Ashley Henderson came out on top with 11.07 (0.0), ahead of Elaine Thompson’s 11.09. Carina Horn was third with 11.21.
400m: Stephenie-Ann McPherson gained a clear win in 50.98 as Floria Guei was next in 51.84.
1500m: Sofia Ennaoui headed them home in 4:07.66 as American Rachel Schneider set a season’s best of 4:08.04. Brit Jemma Reekie was third in a PB of 4:08.05.
400m hurdles: Janieve Russell needed just 55.10 to win as Meghan Beesley was second in 55.90.
Pole vault: Britain’s Holly Bradshaw set a season’s best of 4.75m as Katie Nageotte in second and Ninon Guillon-Romarin in third both cleared a best of 4.68m.
Long jump: World No.1 Lorraine Ugen won with 6.86 (+0.1), well clear of Quanesha Burks (6.48m).
Hammer: Anita Wlodarczyk threw a world lead of 78.74m in the third round, while Sophie Hitchon produced a season’s best of 73.48m. Previous world No.1 DeAnna Price was just sixth with 64.82m, having only one valid throw.
Javelin: Kara Winger threw 60.75m for the win, while Lyu Huihui was second with 60.40. Sunette Viljoen was third with 60.12m.
4x400m: USA’s squad of Brionna Thomas, Jasmine Blocker, Kiana Horton and Courtney Okolo ran 3:24.28 – a season’s best. Jamaica were second with 3:24.29. Third France European lead 2018 3:25.91 over Poland 3:26.17 and Britain 3:26.48.
