One of the finest distance runners in Mexico, Juan Luis Barrios is a racing fixture in California. The multi Pan Am and CAC Champion, Juan Luis Barrios is the former NR at 1500m at 3:37.71 (2007). Barriors was 7th in Beijing 2008 and 8th in London 2008 in the 5000m. His PB at 5,000m, 13:09.81 and 10,000m in 27:28.82 have provided the savvy racer with a scintilating kick.
On Feb 25, 2018, Juan Luis Barrios ran 2:10.55 in the Tokyo Marathon. In the following interview, done before the LA Marathon, Juan Luis Barrios took my questions in English and answered in Spanish. Juan is a talented athlete, proud to represent Mexico and hoping for a top 3 in LA. I asked Juan Luis Barrios if we would see our friend on the track once again. The answer was in the affirmative, as Juan Luis Barrios looks to race the Payton Jordan.
This interview was done on March 22, 2019 at the presser in Griffith Park. On Sunday, March 24, 2019, Juan Luis Barrios executed a fine race, taking third place in 2:11:59, with 14 seconds between first, second and third, and the outcome changing in the last 150 meters.
