This piece, translated from Sports.Be , tells us of how Nafi Thiam, the Olympic and World Champ gold and silver medalist, is dealing with training during the challenging times of the coronavirus.

The corona virus has paralyzed the entire sports world, but the Olympic Games in Tokyo (July 24-August 9) remain (for the time being) on the program. Nafi Thiam is eager to defend her Olympic title in heptathlon in the Japanese capital. In the meantime, she installed a temporary gym in her garage so as not to compromise her preparation. She showed that in a video on her Instagram page.

Top athletes can still make use of sports facilities in these difficult times, but they are not numerous and therefore some athletes are inventive. Thiam wrote in her video on Thursday morning that “if I can’t go to the gym, the gym will come to me”. She further explained how she deals with the developments surrounding the corona virus.

“I try to look at everything from a little distance. My family and I are in good health. So I certainly have no complaints. The situation is difficult for everyone, not just top athletes. Everyone has to do their best to in the right direction and that as soon as possible. I hope that everyone will follow the guidelines. “

Thiam also returned to the Olympic Games in Tokyo, her big goal this season. Due to the corona virus, however, more and more voices are calling for the Games to be canceled, just like all other major sporting events in the spring. “I’m going to be honest,” said Thiam. “At the moment I do not want to take a position in the debate. As an athlete, I naturally hope with all my heart that the Games will continue. We are preparing for a long time, always thinking about the Games. We want to be there, but all together But of course we have to respect the health and well-being of the population. So I don’t know if it is possible. “
