Ajee” Wilson takes USATF Indoor 800m, photo by Cortney White
Ajee’ Wilson is one of the nicest people that I have ever met. I am totally fascinated that the kind person that we interview is also one of the toughest middle distance racers, who can lead from start to finish, or make a huge move with 200m to go.
Thanks to Ajee’ Wilson and her response to Jeff Benjamin on how to train during the current plague.

How is your daily training routine doing and how challenging has it been for you in this environment?
“In the last 2 weeks I’ve finally settled on a training routine that works best for me. I’ve toyed around with different training times, actual mileage/workouts, and different locations the past few weeks to find something that makes sense and also adheres to the guidelines we’re all meant to follow. Right now that looks like running 5-6 days a week, anywhere between 35-70 minutes. Once a week I run hills, and do core/body weight exercises 3 times a week. As far as the challenges of training in this environment, I try to remind myself that at most it is an inconvenience and to just keep working as best I can. There’s no “perfect” path to our end goals, just as long as we get there.”

What advice can you give to runners, -especially youth, high school, collegiate- who are challenged during this time as well?
“My advice to runners right now, would be to stay encouraged and do the best you can with what you can. For me, that’s included getting super creative with training! I’ve created different running loops, checked out new paths, and tried a handful of new exercises. I’d also encourage them to stay connected with their teammates! My teammates and I have zoom workouts, and check in after runs periodically which has helped with physically training alone.”
